Powerful midnight earthquake hits China! Buildings damaged after 5.5 quake shakes Sichuan

A powerful magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Gao County in Yibin, Sichuan Province, shortly after midnight on June 29, sending strong tremors across southwestern China and forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes in panic. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at 12:12 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located near Shahe Town in Gao County, with a shallow depth of only 6 kilometers. Because of the shallow depth, the shaking was felt very strongly across the region despite the moderate magnitude.
