Join me for a peaceful early morning walk through the beautiful village of Letcombe Bassett in Oxfordshire. Surrounded by rolling hills, traditional thatched cottages and countless sheep grazing in the nearby fields, this walk captures the quiet charm of one of England's most picturesque rural villages.
The village is wonderfully peaceful in the early morning, with birds singing, sheep calling across the valley and the gentle sounds of the countryside all around.
There is no talking or music, just natural sounds, village life and the calm atmosphere of rural England.
Letcombe Bassett is a small historic village in Oxfordshire, nestled beneath the Berkshire Downs near Wantage. The village has Saxon origins and was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Its name combines the nearby River Letcombe with the Bassett family, who held the manor during the medieval period. For centuries the surrounding landscape has been shaped by farming, with sheep grazing remaining a defining feature of the valley today.
One of the village's most distinctive features is its collection of beautiful thatched cottages, many dating back several centuries. These traditional homes, together with the surrounding chalk hills and open countryside, give Letcombe Bassett its timeless character.
The village also sits close to the Ridgeway National Trail, one of Britain's oldest roads, used for thousands of years by travellers crossing southern England.
