It is dumping across Japan's resorts in both Hokkaido and Honshu, with 20cms overnight and another 20+cms today. The result is some epic powder, footage of free skier Finn Bowes filmed in Hakuba today while the Niseko powder from Sea and Summit Collective was shot earlier this week . Hi, Luke Kneller here in Matarau for the Mountain Watch Japan Snow Report for
the 8th of January 2026, with thanks to XDM Performance. Well, as you can see,
it is absolutely dumping here. As expected, the storm rolled in overnight with easily 20 to 25
centimetres falling across Matarau, Hakuba and Myoko regions already, with 20 more on the way.
Looking north to Nisiko and Furano, and they've both had over 25 centimetres in the past 24 hours
as well, with it snowing heavily still and temperatures around minus 9. Snowfall clears
central Honshu by around dawn Friday, then gradually clears northern Honshu throughout the
day while light snow persists on Hokkaido. It'll be a very good powder day tomorrow with fresh
spread 25 to 77 metres across most resorts on Honshu and 20 to 50 centimetres on Hokkaido.
We've then got a few days of sun before we see it all come in again. The real cold
with a period of moderate to heavy high-quality snowfall down to base levels. Snowfall rates
gradually ease through Monday, likely clearing central Honshu around midday for an epic powder
filled afternoon. Another massive load of between 30 to 80 centimetres plus is expected to fall
through this three-day period. It's definitely on here and only getting better, so if you're here,
