El CONGRESO pide a SÁNCHEZ que convoque ELECCIONES o que se SOMETA a una CUESTIÓN de CONFIANZA RTVE
The Spanish Congress of Deputies on Thursday urged Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to consider a vote of confidence should he decide not to call elections. The initiative, proposed by the People's Party (PP), garnered the support of Junts, Vox, and the Navarrese People's Union (UPN), totaling 178 votes in favor, two more than the absolute majority. 171 deputies voted against it, and there were no abstentions.
The initiative, which reveals the government's weakness, is not legally binding. The Prime Minister can ignore it and decide not to test whether he still has the confidence of the lower house, almost three years after taking office. However, if he submits to the vote, it should be remembered that his defeat would force him to submit his immediate resignation to the King.
The support of Junts was key to passing this motion presented by the PP regarding the political situation stemming from the judicial investigations into cases affecting the PSOE. Following its approval, shouts of "Resign!" were heard in the plenary session from the PP benches, while the Socialists applauded.
