The conversation highlights her commitment to mental health through the Rare Impact Fund and her heartwarming relationships with her co-stars.
Aw, Saleena's at the Happy Place
This is her second time at the Happy Place
I wrote not like that!
The Happy Place is extra happy today to have you here.
Thank you so much for being here, Selena.
I'm so happy I get to be here.
Did you enjoy the Spirit Tunnel?
I actually did because I did not expect it.
You didn't?
No, because they told me, but I thought, oh, it's just going to be like a quick, you know,
woo.
And then I got all these beautiful flowers and it was just the sweetest thing.
So what a hell of a way to come in, you know, good.
Yes.
That's the goal.
We hope you feel the love, like we said.
Right, guys.
I do.
Now, your husband didn't give you any advice on the Spirit Tunnel because he did.
He tore it up.
He definitely did.
He did not tell me.
And then they showed me and I text him and I was, I know, like he has to show me up.
But yeah, he's a sweetheart.
No, it was very sweet.
That's, that's my man.
Oh, that is good.
Speaking of which, congratulations.
Thank you.
On your guys' wedding.
And it was beautiful because we got to see some of the photos.
You had three, did you see this?
Three dresses.
How did you decide, like, which was for what moment?
Well, so I tried to do this sneaky thing.
I'm sure you can relate, but I didn't want anyone to get photos of my wedding unless
it was from me.
And I keep my life as private as I can.
So that dress was initially for the look.
And then this one was made by Ralph Lauren.
They all were, but this was my favorite dress.
It is gorgeous.
Thank you.
It was a dream.
Now, I mean, it's befitting for the founder of Rare Beauty.
Congratulations.
And you just released your first fragrance.
Tell us about that.
I did, yes.
So, you know, Rare Beauty is five years old now, and it's something that I've
always dreamed of.
Thank you, you know, Dewey.
Yes.
And fragrance is always tricky because there's so much in the space.
And I just went for it, and I hope that people just enjoyed it for what it
meant to me.
I wore it when I got engaged.
I wore it on my wedding day.
So it's kind of my, like, little scent.
Wow.
Yeah.
That is beautiful.
So what's your favorite part about being an innovator in the beauty
industry?
You know, I'm not sure I would necessarily say that.
I just really saw a space for community.
People like myself, I couldn't understand how to do my makeup myself.
So I wanted to create a lane where it wasn't threatening or
intimidating.
It was products that people could pick up and easily use.
And that's just kind of where it started.
I never in a million years would dream that it has become what it has.
But I'm very grateful.
It is amazing what you have done.
I love the work that you do with the foundation.
You created the Rare Impact Fund.
Yes.
Can you tell us about that?
I think you have the biggest heart and one of the most beautiful
people.
So I'm a fan of your person alone.
Thank you.
I appreciate that so much.
And I'm equally so happy and just thrilled to be at your presence.
I'm shaking a little because I get excited.
I just love being able to meet people who I know have made such a
great impact.
I feel the same way about you.
But I think what the mission was for Rare Beauty is 1% of our sales
goes to the Rare Impact Fund, which is basically a...
Thank you.
And it applies education and resources for people in need,
especially in underserved communities.
Yes.
But also around the world.
So our goal is to raise $100 million and we're on our way to do that
for everyone.
Wow.
See?
I can't wait.
That's what we want.
That is really beautiful.
Okay.
You know what, guys?
She has brought us a lovely gift.
Everybody is getting Rare Beauty gifts for the amazing audience.
Okay.
We got to talk about Only Murders in the Building.
I knew y'all were going to go up.
You work with Martin Short and Steve Martin.
What was that like?
For five years?
Yes.
So did you pick up any of their habits?
I have morphed into both of them.
It is hysterical because if they can't do a stunt, I'm with them.
I'm saying, well, I can't do it either.
And they're like, well, they're a little older than you.
And I'm just like, I'll do what they do.
Steve is more shy and very much reserved.
So I get a little bit of that from him.
But Marty, basically, I can't get him to leave my house when he's there.
One time I threw a little gathering and I fell asleep and he was still at my house.
But that's the joy of having both of them because together we do feel like a little unit.
And I just have the best time on the show.
You can feel that.
Yeah.
That's amazing.
Because it builds a family bond.
Give us some love, you guys.
So tell me about the show.
The original show was originally something else.
And then you created the version you guys ended up with, which is the classic that we love so much.
Yeah.
At first, it was like we were twins.
It was called The Amazing O'Malley's.
We owned a magic shop.
And Selena and I were twin characters.
They literally had us as twin brothers and sisters.
What does that mean, Selena?
That means he's Italian.
I'm Mexican.
But it was a totally different show.
Totally different world.
It was a little more boy forward.
And then they tested it and it was like, you know what?
Girls do better.
And then they separated the age group.
It worked out great.
Clearly.
But it was totally different.
What do you remember from the first day?
Honestly, the first day I was a little nervous because initially, oh boy.
I didn't know if this was a show that was going to be the one for me.
I was very nervous.
Wow.
Because I was a girl from Texas and I got fully embraced by all of these people who
from the get go loved me just for who I was.
So it's a very nostalgic time for me.
It's amazing to hear you talk about it.
All of you guys.
Janice, what was it like for you your first day?
Oh man.
Well, it was my first big thing ever in my career.
And I was acting since I was four.
I got the role when I was 12.
And I just remember going on set.
And it was just crazy to me because I saw the set of The Lair.
And I used to watch the original series with my big cousin, Imani.
So it was just crazy to be on that set.
And everyone was just so kind.
It really just kind of calmed my nerves.
It was just so much fun.
I remember we were playing tag like the first day at lunch with Max and El-Kayo.
And it was just so much fun.
And literally, I'll never forget it.
You're sitting in it so well.
It's so fitting.
You're amazing.
And then season two is out now.
Can you tell us about the shocking season finale she's sending?
Please tell us.
Okay.
So we find out that my character, aloof as she may be sometimes,
knew deep down that she had a special place in her heart.
And I am her mother in this series.
I thought it was such a beautiful way to tell the story.
And it leaves for so many amazing questions.
And to be honest, giving an opportunity,
David and I can agree, to someone like Janice and El-Kayo and the boys,
it's so lovely.
These are the kids that should be brought up and want to do what they do.
And I'm just really grateful that we found you.
Yes.
How does that make you feel, hearing that?
That feels honestly crazy because I used to watch you in another Cinderella story.
You're so sweet.
You're really crazy.
And now I'm sitting here with you.
You're just such a light.
Literally, both of you guys are so incredibly sweet.
Just now, I had something, I think a makeup malfunction.
He wiped it off for me.
Super sweet.
I just feel so grateful and blessed to have such amazing people in my life.
I didn't think I would be here.
And I just, oh my goodness.
It's like a prayer answered.
You can do that for other kids to come up behind you and look up to you in that way.
And you've given so many opportunities for these young people.
Selena Gomez stepped onto the stage,
radiating warmth and authenticity,
instantly captivating the audience with her infectious energy.
The crowd roared as she shared a laugh about the unexpected delight of the spirit tunnel,
a whirlwind of flowers and cheers that welcomed her.
I thought it'd just be a quick woo,
but it was the sweetest thing, she said, her eyes sparkling with gratitude.
This moment set the tone for an interview that was as heartfelt as it was hilarious,
leaving everyone eager for more.
Selena's charm lies in her ability to balance vulnerability and strength.
When the host congratulated her on her recent wedding,
she blushed, sharing how her husband,
whom she playfully accused of showing her up in the spirit tunnel,
kept the moment private.
I tried to do this sneaky thing, she admitted,
explaining her desire to shield her wedding from the public eye.
Three breathtaking Ralph Lauren dresses defined her big day,
each chosen for a specific moment,
with one standing out as her favorite.
It was a dream, she said softly,
her words carrying the weight of a deeply personal milestone.
As the founder of Rare Beauty,
Selena's passion for creating an inclusive beauty community shone through.
Celebrating the brand's fifth anniversary and the launch of its first fragrance,
she revealed the scent's significance.
I wore it when I got engaged and on my wedding day.
This personal touch underscored her mission
to make beauty accessible and unintimidating.
I couldn't understand how to do my makeup myself, she confessed,
so I wanted products people could pick up and easily use.
Her humility was palpable as she marveled at Rare Beauty's growth,
never imagining it would become a global phenomenon.
Her commitment extends beyond beauty,
through the Rare Impact Fund,
Selena channels 1% of Rare Beauty's sales
to provide mental health resources,
particularly for underserved communities.
Our goal is to raise 100 million,
she shared, her voice brimming with determination.
The audience erupted in applause,
moved by her dedication to making a difference.
Her heart, as the host noted,
is one of the most beautiful, and Selena's emotional response,
admitting she was shaking,
a little, from the mutual admiration,
only deepened the connection.
The conversation took a lively turn
as Selena dished on her hit show,
Only Murders in the Building.
Working alongside comedy legends Martin Short and Steve Martin,
she's picked up their quirks,
joking, I've morphed into both of them.
She recounted a hilarious moment
when Martin Short overstayed at her house after a gathering,
cementing their family-like bond.
The show's evolution from a quirky concept
about twins running a magic shop
to the beloved mystery comedy fans adore,
was a testament to creative reinvention.
Selena's co-star Janice shared her own awe,
recalling her first day on set as a 12-year-old,
playing tag with the cast
and feeling embraced by their kindness.
As the interview wrapped, Selena's authenticity lingered,
from her playful admission of being a nervous driver
to her mentorship of young stars like Janice,
she exuded warmth and relatability.
The audience left buzzing,
gifted with rare beauty products
and a renewed admiration for a star
whose heart matches her talent.
What's next for Selena?
With her infectious spirit,
the possibilities are endless,
and fans can't wait to see where her journey leads.
