AMARILLO
We never expect one of the best antique hunts in Amarillo, Texas, to happen inside a consignment store—and the surprises just keep coming!

Consignment stores may not be the first place collectors and resellers think of for antiques and vintage items, but this one changes our minds in a hurry. We’re here on a tip from artist and channel member Yvonne Sangster, who tells us that 2nd Impressions in Amarillo, Texas, is a wonderful source for curated vintage décor and antique accents.

What we don’t expect is the number of quality pieces we discover for serious collectors! Roseville pottery, Waterford glass, 1920s iron bookends, Royal Albert china, and much more head straight to the desk, especially after we learn how the store dates its tags and lowers prices when items remain unsold for too long.

Around every corner, another surprise appears. We find French marble clocks with statuary, a figural stained-glass window, cloisonné in every size, pickled bamboo and beautifully inlaid Japanese furniture. Then the owner welcomes us into the back room, where fresh stock waits in bins that have yet to be seen by customers. Vintage décor steals the show, from an MCM Jaru pottery deer and Torquay motto ware to Westmoreland glass and 1950s lamps, and before long we’re negotiating for a collection of finely carved cameos.

Yvonne also introduces us to the art of the region, sharing works by her mentor and one of her students while helping us better understand the artists who shape the Southwest. Plein air landscapes, rodeo-inspired impressions, detailed watercolors, etchings, linocuts, modernist sculpture, and studio glass all appear in this thoughtfully curated store. By the end of the visit, this unexpected stop earns a permanent place on our list of must-see destinations as we travel the country in search of remarkable antiques, vintage treasures, and hidden finds.
