AI GeneratedKamala Harris's suggestion to eliminate the Electoral College sparks debate among political commentators. Critics argue this move is a strategic response to projected Democratic losses in the 2030 census and shifting demographics. The discussion also covers Gavin Newsom's strategy to embrace Joe Biden's legacy for a potential 2028 run and critiques of Harris's communication style.
And in the meantime, Kamala Harris is once again floating this idea of
completely eliminating the Electoral College. This comes after she mentioned
the idea as part of her no bad ideas brainstorm you might remember from last
month, and now the former vice president is seemingly doubling down on it. Well,
since we're there, what about the Electoral College? I think we need to
look at that, too. I think we need to look at that, too. Yes, yes, I do. I
think that there is some real shaking up that we have to do of the rules and
the structure. And is that get rid of the Electoral College? I think we
should. That should be a discussion that we should have. I don't think we
should eliminate that as a point of of discussion for potential action. She
doesn't know that. All right. A lot to dive into here. For more on that, we
are joined by Kennedy, who is the host of Kennedy saves the world as well as
Rich Ziole, the host of the Rich Ziole podcast. Rich, we're gonna let you get
the first bite of the apple here. Do you think wanting to get rid of the
Electoral College has anything to do whatsoever with the idea that Democrats
are projected to not do very well in the 2030 census, and they might lose quite a
few seats? Absolutely. And since Kamala Harris lost the popular vote, we should
eliminate popular vote as well. Both. I don't even think she knows exactly what
she's talking about. No, because she said we should eliminate, not eliminate the
conversation or the Electoral College. I wasn't quite sure, but that's exactly
what it is, Bill. They are projected to get walloped. The old blue wall is not a
blue wall anymore. Trump won all those blue states. They're now purple states.
The purple states will still matter, not as much as Dana's book, but they will
still matter. But now the red states are gonna gain all these electoral votes and
electoral power, and that's because people are moving out of California and
these other states. And so, yeah, if they don't eliminate the Electoral College,
they're not gonna have a chance. Bottom line. I can't wait for this Democratic
primary, because you're gonna have things like this, where she's asked, what do you
think you would describe as hope for the country? And just bear with me, Kennedy,
and watch this. We each have light inside of us, and we need to know that
that is what inspires our hope as much as anything external to ourselves. And
not allow an election or an individual to dampen that light, and instead let
that light kind of carry us in particular moments of darkness. It is so
important that we not only have hope, but that we understand that that should be a
verb, which means that hope has to go hand-in-hand with action. I don't know
really what to say. I'm hoping that the former vice president familiarizes
herself with the parts of speech, because, inconveniently for her, hope is a
verb, as well as a noun. It's a very, very versatile word, and I'm hoping that she
doesn't run again. I do have hope, however, that once she gets on the debate stage,
that will extinguish her presidential hopes once and for all. Because that is
really where she floundered back in 2019, and that's why she was not a viable
candidate in 2020. And the only hope she had for becoming president was the
truncated Joe Biden resignation that allowed her just enough time for people
to dislike her, and that's why her popularity, her polling, and, of course,
the votes went down by the time the November election rolled around. Well, if
she does decide to run again, one of the people she might be running against is
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has decided he is going to embrace Joe Biden
and his legacy. A little pullout from Axios here yesterday. Headline says,
quote, Newsom embraces Biden and run up to 2028 primary. Quote, Gavin Newsom is
gambling that embracing Joe Biden will be more popular amongst Democrats than
running away from him in the party's 2028 presidential primary. Rich, think
it's gonna work? I've heard that and thought I'd lost all sense. Well, he's
got so many problems, right? The investigation to his wife, and there's
there's a there there, you know, with this idea of state contracts and then
money going to Jennifer Newsom's nonprofits. He's not popular. His
record's awful. Do you know that none of the 10 films nominated for best
picture were made in Hollywood? That's the exodus of California. And then the
third problem is he's a straight white guy who's not socialist enough for them.
So I think by embracing Biden, he's reminding everybody, the base voters who
were angry about the swap of Kamala Harris. Hey, she was the worst candidate
ever, and maybe I'm the guy that we need to be able to win. And Kennedy, why? I
think this also this shows looking backward when your party and voters, if
you're an independent, they want to look forward. Yes, I think everyone in the
Democrat Party, especially the establishment, wants to move on from
the Biden Harris era. They don't want her to run. They don't want to talk
about his record. They don't want to talk about his lack of mental acuity
and all the things that Governor Newsom is going to re remind people of. And,
you know, I think and this is kind of dark, like he's backing him because he's
assuming that the former president may not live that long. He may not live
until 2028. So in memorializing him, he may latch onto this this wistful
longing that Democrats may have, which will be momentary. It's not a degree of
policy. It is just some weird ghost that he's hanging onto, which just shows he
doesn't really have political instincts. Well, to Dana's point, I
think that 2028 Democratic primary is gonna be very entertaining to watch no
matter who jumps in. Let us pray for good health for all of us, because it's
gonna be wild. Rich Kennedy. Great to see you guys.
