I think it's very, very good.
I think a very, very good response, like today.
Those are the ones I've done.
I'm ready to be judged on that.
I'm ready to be judged on that as well.

At the Pony Golden Awards, congratulations on that, and also, you've stood out as one of, you know, the most stylish, uh, political figures, you know.
Yeah, well, because you're interacting with science, or you've been into it ever since, you know, hanging out at the lab.
I think, um, style isn't really about anything else—it's just about, um, how you wear something.
If, well, your body type doesn't allow you to wear something, well, like, well, at the same time make you dress up, dress up, well, to be able to, to, for, for, for the occasion.
Yeah. So, this guy, the one who's always at the gym, is the one who's always complaining about the weather, right?
Yes, I train, uh, at least about, uh, a minimum of four to five times a week.
Wow.
Yeah.
What kind of lifestyle do you have, exactly?
Every day.
Every single day, four to five times a week.
Yeah.
Um, I'm going to Mombasa, I go there, and I'm, I'm happy, uh, I think, uh, any gym opens up for me at any time.
Not because of anything else.
Because of that.
Yeah.

and probably if there are weekends when I will be able to
I haven't been to Mombasa, but they are countable. They are
truly countable. I've been, you know, uh, taking my
Parliamentary duties II: Chair meetings, on average
about four to five meetings every single week and I can
comfortably say as well that, um, I think over the past five years, I've

because I had to make arrangements for the burial. That means
I missed one day, and then the next day, and then uh, the last day
that I missed was because I had to go and do the
funeral for Carol, uh, who was one of my employees. So,
I've actually only missed uh 4 days. Yeah, I actually
think that you are among the most genuine people. If you can
Actually, remember that, I know most or some of them would
probably say I've just missed several and probably won't
even remember that.

Then money, uh, is going to be able to circulate easily, uh

what people need is a way for them to be able to have businesses
in a conducive manner, and the other day I was talking to one
about your colleagues, uh, Brenda, actually, and I was telling her
Um, that doesn't make sense. You know, if you go right now,

to do that is like saying you've gone to

which is a landmark, and here you are. You know, you can't
be able to take pictures at some of the iconic locations
in Mombasa. Especially at a time when everything is so
digital. Everything is so digital. Why do you want to
What are we doing? We're chasing pennies and losing pounds. This is what
We're doing it. Yeah. We've actually seen, uh, I don't know.
If you're aware of that, we've actually seen you know, uh a
media that is based in Nairobi and mostly in Mombasa. So,
It's actually been a huge deal. Do you have any plans?
You know, for online digital media, you know, in
terms of supporting them in any way, because we've seen most
of them rising to even gaining a massive number of followers and
It's been a thing, you know, uh, that has even sparked a
conversation where people are saying that the online media is
actually taking over, you know, traditional media. Well,
Uh, online media has a huge presence. Uh, Kenya's internet
Penetration is among the highest on the continent. Uh
Nairobi, then Mombasa. So, I mean, a
a place, for the sake of argument, where internet penetration is concerned, I
I'd say it's about 70%. Uh, so, when you
have internet and when I say that, I'm not saying in terms
of coverage, I'm saying that people should be able to access the
internet on a daily basis. That means through your mobile
phone, through your laptop, your iPad, or whatever device it may be.
So, there is a need. In fact, what we actually need
To start considering is nothing else but to consider talking.
about online media owners and content creators
have their own level of, uh, their own self-regulation.
Uh, when you have media that can be heard through uh
hundreds of thousands of people, you end up having a
social responsibility and your social responsibility is to
Make sure that whatever it is that you spread out there
Is it one truthful? Is it going to be able to harm others?
Um, you know, is it something that is going to have um a
ripple? Uh, multiplying effect on a negative level or on a
positive level. So, these are the things, and of course, um
Personally, I'll tell you what we have been able to accomplish. We
have been able to set up four digital hubs within the
constituency, actually. One of them was at Jamo Kenyatta.
The other one was at Sheikh Abdullah Farsi. We're putting
Another one at Um and another one at Um Majengo Primary. And
These are areas that are going to have WiFi. I
would wish for a situation in which, in fact, access to
Communication is key to growth. So, when you yourselves, I
think the best thing that we can do is to ensure that more
and more people have that access, and I was saying that
Um, there are so many people who would wish to have services.
from Mombasa IT providers, um, and uh, you know, there's
Internet providers. Uh, if they can be able to do it now
facilitated the establishment of internet hubs where they can have
WiFi being spread, and if that WiFi is being spread, if this
region, every single person has WiFi, then that means you as
As a digital media owner, as a content creator, you
comfortably gaining more and more viewership, and there are
ways in which they can actually earn money from it.
You know, every single person who logs in, probably there's
an advertisement that is going to appear only once or twice
a day or whatever it may be. So, there are ways you can be
but the only thing is, you know, we use existing
platforms, whether it's going to be power lines, whether it
is going to be the street lines or whatever they're called, and you
Pass on the same. Uh, these are people who are able to
Say that every single IP address. That means you can
Only be able to get what? Any amount of MB per day. More
than that, then you have to pay for it. So, it becomes, you
know, a way of, um, and you know, whether we like it or
No. Online media is catching up. If you want to
know that it's catching up, mainstream media itself is
Going online. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. That's
True. Amazing. We are having a conversation with uh the
Incoming governor 2022 here in Mombasa. Now, before
Of course, this conversation
I just want to know. So much. You know, Nikki, what
What makes you happy? As a person now, aside from leadership.
I'm uh I'm very I I think I'm um I hope I don't uh I
probably would be close to being called boring on uh on
uh, because um, I wake up in the morning. If I have a
Meeting early, then I wake up much earlier. If my day
starts later, then I wake up a bit later. Uh, first thing
What I do is I go train. Yeah. I go and uh I just sweat.
I get going, and then after that I start, um, my day, um
Sometimes, sometimes, it's so vital, especially
someone like uh myself and probably any other person who
sees so many people. At times, it's important to be able to
spend even if it means 15 to 30 minutes just by
yourself. Um, reflect on how the day has been, what you
could have done to be better. Wow. Uh, what you should do
more what you need to improve on and I think um uh what
makes me happy as an individual is you know, there's
nothing better than when you see someone uh whose life you
have been able to touch. I see so many people out on the
streets. So many people out on the streets and they all tell
I know that you've helped me in one way or another. I
See people, uh, my tattoo guy's telling me you fought.
for us, when uh, we were being told we wouldn't be able to
drive at a certain hour or there was the issue of social
distance themselves while at the same time, SGR and airlines were
being allowed to travel, uh, freely. So, we came up with so
Many of these programs, um, training for the border and
the uh operators, but one of the things that has really
Really, um, made me feel proud, actually, is um, we have a
A program called Skills Mitani. We inherited a constituency.
that had such a huge percentage of people who were A, unemployed,
B, they had just dropped out of Standard Eight. The
transition rate from eight to four was very, very uh a
the standard from grade eight to secondary school was extremely low. So,
You can't just take these people and dump them like that. Yeah.
So, we had to do something. Uh, of course, now the government
policies that require someone to attend secondary school, it's
mandatory. Uh, so now even those who have finished
secondary schools just because you got a D or a C or
whatever it is does not mean you cannot do something out of
your life. So, we came up with a program called Skills Mitani
which has been one of the most successful, and I'm glad that
It's being emulated in different parts of uh this
where we allow you to choose such a variety of forms
vocational training, and when I say various, it's um
close to about seventy institutions and a hundred
plus different causes from which you can choose, and we
automatically pay for you 60%, and 40% is paid by
yourself. So, this causes vary from uh, we've got people
who have trained themselves in um music. We've got people
who have trained themselves in first aid. We've got
people who have trained themselves in cooking, um
culinary cooking, baking, uh, people who do, you know, hair,
uh, beauty and makeup, electrical, uh, carpentry, all
These things are up to forklift operators, and we allow you
to choose the institution where we will hold a major exhibition
where all these institutions sell themselves and they

that this is what they want. Uh, what it is that they prefer
to do with their lives and just because you are unable to
go to college or you do not go to university, it does not
mean you cannot become one of the best hairstylists. You cannot

electric, you know, an electrician or someone comes over
you and tells you that we're having um a problem and uh
Once we've been able to do this, then it has worked.
It's worked so well. I mean, I feel so... I mean, it's very
touching when you see people who have been able to increase
their livelihood from the programs that we've done.
Yeah. You've really raised the bar too high. A little bit too
high for the next incoming MP. I would say that because
They will have a lot to do, and uh, you know, you can just
Share and tell me, uh, one little secret of yours, you know?
Success. It's not a secret. It's very, very open. Um
Actually, there is absolutely no secret to success. Um
you basically, there's an English statement you reap
what you saw. If you planted maize, don't expect
to get beans. Uh, and if you plant hatred, don't expect
Love. If you sow discord, do not expect acceptance. And
That's it, plain and simple. And I think, um, what we basically
have is we have been able to plant you know I always use
This statement that I've been with people during, um, their
tough times during times when they needed a shoulder to lean on
able to
And uh, that's the reason why they're going to be with you.
during the time that you feel you need people
To be there for you. Um
I've, I've been, uh, I've, I've, uh, fought for the rights of
the people I represent in the National Assembly. Sometimes
Outside the National Assembly. I've been hit by tear gas. Uh, quite
Several times. Uh, I've had a disagreement with
administration. But I always took my foot down. And that's
What it is. There's no other secret. Being consistent in
loving people. Amazing. Amazing. We're going to give
The incoming governor, 2022. I truly wish you all the best. And uh
I'm a personal peer supporter. You know what? This uh this
He's our man and he has to take it home. Because looking at
Whatever he has been able to do. You know, I keep my chances.
I'm sure he would achieve greater things here in Mombasa. Uh
Zero zero one. All the best in everything. Yeah.
Let's stay away from hatred. Rip love. Just simply spread
out the word of of of love. You know I always say I I once
said this and uh it still remains the same. You cannot
make everyone you meet in a day happy. But imagine if
You are only to try and put a smile on three people. And
Those three people put a smile on another three people. And
though that makes it nine, and of those nine they put a smile
on another three people. That makes it twenty-seven. And the
the multiplying effect continues and continues and before you know it
realize it, what started off as one simple kind gesture from
yourself. Spreads out. This is how love is spread. He's
I think so. For the most awards won, you know, during his
term. No, we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight, nine, ten, eleven
Around. You know, I think this is a commendable job.
This is the county gala awards this year. Yeah.
Twenty twenty-two. I was given the uh best member of
Parliament in the coastal region. Yes. Yes. Yes.
This one, um, in recognition of my astounding performance, is the
Member of Parliament, and I came in third nationally.
Nationally. Yeah.
Like that, from the same, but that was my work in uh, uh, CDF.
And all. Yeah. This one, uh, it's a humanitarian award. I
something for being honored for my tremendous efforts
towards serving humanity.
Yeah.
Personality of the Year.
These are just appreciation certificates.
Things we've been able to accomplish. This one is for the youth.
This was, I think, last year one of the most
influential Kenyan Muslims in the 2019 Uhuru social
enterprise and philanthropy. Yeah. This one was another
plaque for being the best member of parliament in the
coastal region for this year. Wow. I think we've got this one.
This, um, uh, my support for cancer patients. Yeah. The the
foundation is the one that has been able to do that. This is
Uh, my outstanding performance, number one in the county of
Mombasa and number three as well. Nationwide in Kenya. Yes.
Uh, this is just uh, these are the very, very many. These are
Incredibly many. I think these are all the schools that have been
Could you give me this? It's just appreciation for uh

Me. Yeah. I think
Wow. You shouldn't look at it.
And I always say this: awards don't define a person.
Awards do not define a person. What defines a person is what
you do on a daily basis. Awards are given simply to say, you
Know, uh, just to put that emphasis. Appreciated, yes.
But whether they define a person, I truly don't think so.
What defines you is your character, and your character
Uh, and I say this, you know, you're asking me what it is.
what I have to say to the young people, especially

I've had an amazing conversation with the
Incoming Governor 2022. Anyway, a big shout out
Behind the camera.
