What does it look like when a single person has mastered architecture, design, sculpture, painting, drawing, stop motion filmmaking, photography, and cooking — and then builds a life around all of it for a family of 5? This week on Life in Small Spaces, we're inside a thoughtful and magical home tucked away in the Los Angeles hills that answers that question completely.

The house itself has a remarkable history, once owned by a celebrated Hollywood screenwriter, but it has been transformed over the past two decades into something entirely its own: a living, breathing creative compound for a family of five. Every corner of this property has been put to clever and joy filled use, and all by the hands of Irwin Miller, architect and true polymath. There's a koi pond, an outdoor gym, hand-built structures tucked across the grounds, a working studio where anything can be made, kilns for ceramics, and one of the most gorgeous bathrooms we've ever filmed. And somehow, this family made it all work in a space that never feels oversized, just deeply, intentionally lived in.

It's no wonder that the three kids who grew up here are artists in their own right. And if you've ever wondered what a truly creative life looks like from the inside, this is it.
