Baltimore pothole battle: A retiree’s fight against City Hall
Willie Johnson spent 37 years working his way up the ranks of the U.S. Postal Service, a career of meticulous management that he says left him well prepared to navigate the bureaucracy of his retirement. But he did not anticipate that his most difficult post-career assignment would be trying to collect $831.54 from Baltimore City.
Johnson, an 83-year-old Pikesville resident, is one of countless drivers wrestling with city infrastructure that often fails them. After a deep pothole on Patterson Avenue shredded a tire and forced a wheel alignment on his Mercedes-Benz in February, he filed a claim for reimbursement.
