2D Shape Properties - Different Types of Triangles - Triangles for kids - Types of Triangles - ks2
2D shape properties - Different Types of Triangles. A fun math video to help teach your child the 2D shape properties of triangles. Explore the different types of triangles - isosceles, equilateral, right angled and scalene and their properties. Learn about the different angles and properties and help your child understand the properties for each different triangle type.
Are there different types of triangles? A question that kids will ask when they get informed with the fact that triangles come in different types because they never paid attention to the change in the shape of the triangle which they might be dealing with, all what they know is that the triangle consists of three angles and three sides.
There are three different types of triangles that are found out there: the equilateral, the isosceles and the right-angled triangle. Every single one of these different triangles has different properties than the other.
The isosceles triangle has two sides of equal length and one side that is different. It also has two equal angles. To get the shape of the isosceles triangle, the kid should compare it to real objects and those which take the shape of the isosceles triangle type include the ice-cream cone, the Eiffel Tower in France or the slice of pizza. The equilateral triangle has three sides of equal length and even the angles are the same; they are 60 degrees. This type of triangle is the one most famously known, or the one that people are mostly used to. The examples for the real things which take the form of the equilateral triangle, there is the road sign, the pool ball rack, or a dorito piece.
The third type of triangle is known as the right-angled. The right-angled triangle is the one that has one of the angles that is always 90 degrees. There are some examples for the right-angled triangle type, such as the triangular ruler or a ramp.
To make sure that your kids got the chance to understand these differences between the types of the triangles, you should examine their minds by trying to play some games with them; you could ask them to spot out some types from around them while they are sitting in the same place with you, and you could bring them some objects or even pictures for these objects and ask them which type of triangle they are. This will be very helpful to help the kids know the differences between the different triangle types and manage to know which one they are looking at at the moment.
When it comes to the different shapes that are found out there in general, there are not only 2D shapes, but there are also the 3D shapes, and these geometric shapes are also from the things that kids learn when they are in the first phase of learning more about shapes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-uRABe5sFE).
When you teach your kids any shapes found out there, you should always make sure that they understood what you are talking about and this will appear when you get to ask them some questions at the end and see their answers. Playing along with the kids will always make it easier for them to learn and this will appear from letting them guess the shapes that you are showing them, they could be pictures or real objects (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmfCdqxTjEw).
In addition to the 2D shapes that we are talking about, there are also the 3D shapes which are also beneficial for the kids to know about and also get introduced to their different properties and they should also know the differences between the two different types, the 2D and the 3D (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ea_xGBiw1o).
Now, do you know the different types of triangles? Do you know the differences between the isosceles, the equilateral and the right-angled triangles? Let us play and guess which type of triangle is in front of each one of you at this moment.
