Multiplication for kids should be easy to give them the chance to love solving the mathematical problems and make it challenging for them to always try a little bit harder. There are different methods used to teach multiplication for kids and in this educational video, we show you how they can multiply through using the number lines.
The number line method used with multiplication combines addition and counting in the process to make it much easier for the kid to bring the final answer out. There are different steps which parents homeschooling their kids should teach the kids when it comes to multiplication and number lines. First of all, the kids should check the mathematical equation they should solve and then translate it into an addition math problem and second, the kids should use this addition equation they have written down to count on the number line they have already drawn from the beginning.
At the beginning, the mathematical equation should not be long enough to give space for the kid to count on the number line without running out of numbers or space. Sometimes it could be easier for the kid to divide the number that should be counted into groups, if for example the equation that one should solve is 4x5 then it could be jumping five jumps on the number line for four different times with counting every single jump as one, and the number that the kid will stop on at the end will be the answer.
There are different methods used for teaching kids how to multiply and not just the number lines method and some of these are even played with toys in the form of games to make it more interesting for the kids (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPW1bmLTFdA). On our channel, there were some ideas imposed to help parents homeschooling their kids teach them to multiply, such as using the basic multiplication grid method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3duqrhE8Xw), there are the multiplication times tables (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r6IN-h9d-I) and some of the games played with play doh, building blocks or the Lego pieces.
There are different mental math tricks to use with the kids to teach them multiplication which we have also tried before and turned out to be successful and help the kids to think while trying to get the right answer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYvf790iHUc).
There is another method that is sometimes considered similar to the times tables and which is the multiplication table, in this method kids will be also depending on a table with the numbers in order to count on and solve the mathematical equation they are supposed to solve (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKom4XkX7-8).
When it comes to the multiplication methods which you might want to teach your kid, you should always keep in mind that sometimes playing games while learning is the most interesting for kids and from those which you could try with your kids, you could try the multiplication aerobics through which the kids could learn to multiply and at the same time do some aerobics moves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hICAoEIcLE).
There are different creative ideas to think about when it comes to multiplication for kids and different trials that parents could try with their kids, they should just make sure that the kid is getting the whole idea, knows how to apply it and is finding it easy to handle and be dealt with, because otherwise it will turn out to be not effective for the child.
Math is tricky when one don't pay attention to the small details and that is the reason why there are different tricks that kids should learn in order to know how to multiply - so get yourself ready with your ideas or try to depend on those which we have on our channel and try them out with your kids.
What do you think of this multiplication for kids method that depends on translating the multiplication to an addition equation and then uses the number line to count the final answer? Try it out with your kids and let us know about the feedback!
