Play-Doh is a toy and material children around the world love to play with from an early age as it opens them up to a world of learning and creativity.
In this video, Michelle is using play-doh and one of James' favorite small characters in order to teach him how to count numbers while playing around at the same time. This actually made the learning process much easier because you are not following the ordinary techniques of using a pen and a paper which the kids might become bored of and thus might not be interested in sitting and learning something new.
Using the play-doh could happen in lots of ways, in this video, Michelle first asked James to count to four by stamping with the small character toy on the play-doh piece and then she asked him to make three buns for her bakery shop and thus he counted to three with taking out the buns by using a round plastic piece.
Play-doh could be used in education in several ways, we have brought one of them in this video but we still have other ideas and it is not just about maths and numbers, but it could also be about crafts and creating shapes out of the play-doh with the kids - they are all interesting lessons which they will definitely learn from and will also enjoy.
We have different videos on our LearningMole channel in which we used play-doh to give the kids the chance to learn something through using one method that is suitable for them. Mainly, we use play-doh for counting numbers and for stamping and matching (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhME5y2JbH0) but we also use it for creating shapes and for writing numbers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgsaOTbbjUA) and this could be also done with letters but we still didn't get to this point, all that Michelle has been doing with the play-doh is related to numbers and counting them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhME5y2JbH0) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfLjZaL9bRs).
It is not just about using the play-doh in learning while playing but there are lots of other educational resources related to homeschooling that could be depended on. One of the famous methods is the one related to Lego; kids love Lego as well and they will always enjoy learning something while playing with Lego.
There are different videos on our channel that could provide parents with the resources they might need and the support they are searching for. You could visit this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roMEZv1OObc) to know how to teach your kid to count by using the Lego pieces, and you could also teach your kids to learn English and know more about the letters through visiting this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmmNwX1bPH4).
When you are choosing a game or a trick that you are going to use in order to teach your kid something, you have to make sure that your choice is suitable for the kid's age and will not be too hard or too easy for them but instead, it would be correct and will give them the chance to learn something, think and at the same time enjoy the whole process.
There is one important tip to keep in mind when you are playing or teaching something to your kid at home through the long journey and this tip is to let them feel that you are part of this journey as well; let them ask you and you should even trick them at some point to know whether they know the answers to the questions they are proposing or not.
In the case of the play-doh, you could do like Michelle when she ordered three buns from James for her bakery shop and you could even go a little bit further and let your kid order something from you to give them the feeling that it is a game which you both are parts of.
Homeschooling will turn to be successful if you are using the right methods and creating interesting games and tricks for the kids which they will enjoy - it will be a support for them when they go to school.
If you have any questions you want to ask or if you have any suggestions you want to propose, don't hesitate to send them over and we will answer and share all the useful information that would be helpful to you.
