For years, we’ve all heard the same story about the Middle Ages—that life was short, harsh, and over almost before it began, with most people barely living past twenty. But how much of that is actually true… and how much of it has simply been repeated without question?

The reality is a little different. If a person made it through the dangerous early years of childhood, they often lived much longer—sometimes to ages that wouldn’t seem unusual even today. And once you begin to see that, it raises a bigger question. If this part of history isn’t quite what we were told, then what else might we be getting wrong?

Now look at the world we live in. A time where fewer people truly own the land beneath their feet, where homes are tied to debt, and where unseen systems quietly shape the way we live. It makes you wonder—are we really better off than the people who came before us?

In this video, we’re going to look past the myths and take a closer, more honest comparison between the life of a medieval peasant and our own. From land and property, to taxes, to everyday life, to community and consumerism, are we actually freer and is life better today than it was 1000 years ago?
