Painting Restoration of a charming 19th-century painting depicting the famous Ponte Rotto (Broken Bridge) in Rome.

When this artwork arrived at my studio, it suffered from paint losses, surface damage, and a heavily discoloured varnish that obscured many of the artist’s original colours and details.

In this video, I take you through the complete restoration process, including examination under ultraviolet light, varnish removal, filling losses, conservation retouching, and the application of a final protective varnish.

Along the way, we also discover the fascinating story of Rome’s legendary Broken Bridge — a structure that survived for centuries and became one of the city's most iconic ruins.

This restoration is not only about preserving a painting, but also about preserving the memory of a place that has captivated artists and travellers for generations.
