The Plaza Hotel is the most famous hotel here in New York. It is five stars and you are going to
recognize it from Home Alone part two New York. Has anyone seen that movie? Yes it is one of the
fanciest hotels in the world and I am checking in and you guys are coming with me so let's go and
see what this is like. It's interesting to see the main entrance that I thought, well I guess was in
the movies, is actually residences so yeah you can live at the plaza it seems. I thought we could
run through and recreate that scene with Kevin. The kind of stuff. The hotel was built in 1907
so we're going to see some gorgeous old details. It's French Renaissance and Beaux Arts. Yes we're
doing another episode where I'm checking into a five-star hotel here in New York and paying for it
and telling you whether I think it's worth your hard-earned money. Pack your fancy pants and let's
keep an eye out for some 24 karat gold.
Wow what an entrance. Kind of reminds me a little bit of the Ritz I guess with that French element
to it. Gorgeous archway. I don't think they're particularly strict about you needing to stay here.
I've walked in and out a few times and they don't even really say hello which is a shame but look
all this furniture. Look at the kind of Juliet balconies and it smells gorgeous in here. Oh dim
the lights. Getting the vibe guys. Mosaic floor. Look at all these orchids. Look at the chandelier.
Oh look at this. They're all having afternoon tea. Oh it reminds me a bit of the Savoy in the
landmark all in one. Oh it's a little bit dated. It's a little bit dated. Let's have a look.
Afternoon tea set up. I love the greenery. This is really lovely in here. Oh I feel like I could
like dim the lighting a bit. Afternoon tea without tablecloths though. That makes me sad. I feel like
they should have some tablecloths. It's a bit opulent isn't it? Looks like there's some event
spaces as well. Sorry if I'm filming people. I'll move quickly. Look at the detail. Okay the
chandeliers are incredible. They've got a few cabinets with knickknacks. Okay there's a shopping
bit down there. We'll have a look later. I like all the lighting up in the coving.
Okay I think this is where breakfast is. This looks nice. I feel like they could have it
cornered off a little bit. Shiny floor. It's a bit exposed. Oh yeah it's very contemporary
actually. The furniture. Look at this. Oh my god look at the chandeliers. Oh this is gonna look
gorgeous in the evening. The flower budget does not disappoint. Reception.
Yeah the lighting. Wow. It goes from like really bright to really dark in here. Look at all the
detail. They're okay. They look a little bit dated. Pick up some jewellery. Some diamonds on the end.
Oh no I like the old school charm. I mean is that bronze? I don't know. No I really like that. Okay
let's see. Oh look at the lift though. I really like this mirror detail. Yeah it's a little like
old in some places. I don't mind it. We've even got a little light moment. Which brings us to
the 12th floor. Very bright. I like the old phone and the old signs. Very high ceilings. So many
chandeliers. I have to laugh a little bit. Can you see this line all the way along?
Can you see this cut? It's kind of like Freddy Krueger has gone along
and cut the carpet. That's really bizarre. I'm not sure if that's coming out on camera.
Someone should get a slap on the wrist for that. I do have to say the corridors smell incredible.
I like the scent already. Here we go. I paid $1,200 for the night and that excludes breakfast.
That was the entry room. However I have had an upgrade. I think my room is about $1,500. Got a
lovely little entrance area here. I love the panelling and it's quite a creamy colour which
I like. Look at this. The ceilings are so high. I'm gonna assume every floor has ceilings this high.
Again on the 12th. I think that's a king. I want to say that's a king bed. Two little seats. I feel
like they could put a little table in there. I think that might be the extra that I've got here.
Loads of storage. Don't mind all my stuff guys. A little desk area and TV on the wall. Already you
can see some wear and tear. I'm not gonna try not to nitpick it on purpose because it is an old hotel
but yeah it's definitely definitely got a lot of pre-love going on. Oh I like the little thing.
No smoking. Pen. Yeah a lot of people are saying it needs a refurb but yeah I don't know. I think
the carpet is like not my favourite colour. Ironically it actually looks completely spotless.
I think maybe they went a bit too into the bronze but I do like this. I think a pop of colour
wouldn't go amiss. Oh they've got some USB chargers in there. I have struggled actually in some hotels
um to find because you don't tend to get um adapters and stuff even in five-star hotels I
find um overseas. Yeah that is a gorgeous light. I personally don't love like anything too bulby.
I think this hotel's got a lot of bulbs going on. I love this. These must have cost an absolute
fortune to have all of the light. Even the hinges have got so much detail. I do like the room. I'm
gonna be honest I think it's just too much bronze for my personal taste. Also apologies um that ring
up that I think that was me so um I'll mention that I've accidentally done that. It's unhooked
on the curtain. Very ornate. Very flamboyant. Bit bougie for me to do my work but I do like all this
old furniture. It's it's just a bit of a mixed bag. I don't think everything needs replacing at all.
Just think it needs a bit of brightening up um but we have got some information on the plaza.
They've got loads of like kind of nods to different movies which I'll come on to but look at this.
Look at this branding. That is exceptional. What's in here? Is this a spa? In-room dining. Gosh we'll
have a look at that. I would say the place is very clean. We have got a huge tv. You can cast and
everything like that and then we have some welcome treats. We'll have a look at this in a second. Look
at this fruit bowl. This is insane. Also that's really good because then I can have breakfast and
you know and you want a little snack. We have got quite a standard thing. Oh my gosh. Bottle of
plonk. We'll take that with a pinch of salt. Etched. Is that what you call it? Etched glasses. Plaza
but I don't know um and then look at this like gold leaf crusty shield. I don't think that's a
gift. I don't think that is. That's kind of cool though. Look and it's got all the movies that were
shot here and the man did say that there's even a nod on the the telly of like what stuff was uh
filmed here. Nice little card just saying enjoy New York. I feel like they should add like a little
picture of the hotel on there. Would that not be quite cool? A little line drawing or something.
This little box. A pair of turtle doves and look it's got the doves from Home Alone 2. Do you remember?
I meant to like gift it to someone. Oh my gosh that's adorable. That's really sweet but I'm like
is there a price? Am I buying it? Also I have to apologize um I left my tripod on the plane
so I'm gonna have to just try and put you on surfaces. I like put it in the cubbyhole behind
me and then I got to baggage claim and I was talking to someone and suddenly I was like oh
my gosh I've left it on the plane. Never mind. I'll get another one. We don't have a park view.
No central park view but we do have I mean that's New York for you isn't it? Look at everyone in
this office block. Slightly depressing and then I think Fifth Avenue is that way. We'll do a bit
of explore. Very nice. It's a bit of a drizzly old day today actually. Yeah everything is like
mega clean. It's just some of the furniture's a bit a little smashed up but then other bits and
bobs. Got some more drawers in there. Uh you know they're pretty mint. Also I did just ask about that
plaza book and they said the it depends on the room room type so in a lot of the rooms they give
away that book and the two turtle doves. So oh loads of storage. I like that light in there.
Little thing that you put your shoes in and the butler comes to clean them. Oh that's quite fun.
That colour's really random. Normal things like your safe and then I've never seen this in a hotel.
Like a laundry basket. I wonder how many people forget. Loads of storage. We've got an iron,
an ironing board. Oh we've got slippers. Plaza slippers. Oh they look cool with the embroidery.
Yeah printed on. Some squidgy ones. Yeah smells lovely. I do like the scent. Everything I think I
thought you'd get that kind of like old smell but they're there on it with the scent and some more
hanging space. And as we pan over we have got obviously air con. We have another. I think this
is maybe the extra. I borrowed the umbrella from downstairs. And another wardrobe which is nice.
Everything smells gorgeous. And then we have, do you call this like a wet bar? You don't really
get this so much I don't think in the UK. Little sink. Little drink situation. Oh gosh we'll see
how much this all costs. And some lovely glassware. I did actually ask if they had any, that was my
water by the way so don't worry about that, like bigger mugs and they don't. So yeah if you want
to make a cup of tea tip it into two. Anyway some coffee pods. They've only got one which I think is
a little bit. I feel like they should do you know regular decaf or whatever. But yeah a coke is $11.
Evian $11. Tonic and club set oh my gosh. Red Bull's $12. Obviously these are things plus tax.
Cranberry juice $14. So not cheap. The minibar it's not weighted thankfully so we can have a proper
a proper nose. But quite the selection. All the miniatures as you expect $20 to $32.
These are definitely more than London but New York is expensive. Some $75 for a little bottle
of champagne. But yeah nothing included. No area to kind of put your own bits and bobs.
One thing I would say is that when I checked in they were like concierge. Everyone has a butler
or whatever if anyone needs anything. And they were coming round actually to replenish if anyone
wants coffee and stuff. And I actually said I was like do you have milk? Because you know your girl
has got a travel kettle now like my lesson. And they were like oh yeah yeah sure. They were like
might be 10-15 minutes. I was like absolutely no rush. And then I saw one of the ladies again
and she was like look to me she was like oh you haven't got your milk yet. And I was like oh yeah
yeah no I haven't got it yet. And that was like two hours ago. So it is what it is. We'll see
whether it's all talk because they were very on it at reception when I checked in to be like
VIP services and all that kind of stuff. So we'll see if the milk arrives. And to be clear I don't
really care. I'm more than happy to go and buy myself some milk. But you know I'm here to review
it at the end of the day. This beautiful mirror. Really need to go clothes shopping but let's not
talk about that. And then we have the bathroom. All these doors are absolutely massive. These
have to be the biggest doors I think I've ever seen in a hotel. Look at that. Little things like
this where I'm like oh I want to go around with the thing and like chip all the paint off. Anyway
beautiful beautiful mosaic tile. And if I trip on this one more time with my toe. If anyone has
stayed at the plaza. What is wrong with me? Is it plaza or is it my toes? The tile work. I thought
this was going to be a bit dingy but it's way nicer in person. I don't know if this is going
to come across on camera. But we have got a huge bath. Look at these taps. Yeah I think I thought
this was all going to be like peeling and gross. There's only a couple of things which I've
highlighted. I think it's in good nick to be honest. We've got a hairdryer. Oh my god I'm so
I was like oh my god there's sweets. Such a sugar person. I've got some bath salts and some glasses
on a shelf which is stressing me out. Oh my god are they going to slide off in the night?
A lovely robe. Plaza New York. Look at that. The little trim. This feels quite nice. Quite
substantial. Oh that's yeah that's a bougie one. Goes with the tiles. This sink area. Vanity area
is absolutely lovely. Freestanding. I've washed my hands already so apologies it's not perfect.
We have got Etro. That's a wonderful brand. We've got some body lotion. So we've got a little knick
knack vanity kit shower cap. Kind of cool. I like that. I like the gold. It's not as bad. Yeah it's
not as bashed up as I thought it was going to be. Some towels. An extra scary mirror. But you guys
are looking gorgeous. These are stunning. I really wish it was all like dimmable because I would say
already in this hotel it's either really dark and moody downstairs or it's like someone's got their
headlights on full beam driving towards you down a country lane. We've all been there. I really
really like this. I think this is lovely. The mosaic must have been an absolute pain to fit.
Huge rainfall shower and again very fancy pants but super clean. You've got on the wall a shampoo
shower gel and conditioner. Very nice. I like that with the glass. And then in the other room you have
toilet which isn't very exciting let's be honest. Okay let me show you where we are in the world.
Like I said I did get an upgrade. I think I probably was maybe like in that kind of room.
I did actually look and the room that I paid for. God look at that one. Blimey. The room that I
actually booked I've checked and it's like not available for like the next two weeks so I think
maybe they've just oversold it but hey that happens. I forgot there is a microwave and some
sweets and stuff up there. I don't know where the rest of the mini bar is because it had cookies
and everything listed. Let's have a look at this book. This is really quite a nice thing to to give.
Oh I've not seen that film. Have you? Of course Home Alone 2. I've probably mentioned it 10 times already.
Arthur. Gosh I haven't seen that in a long time. It's quite a nice thing to have actually. I think this
actually shows just how small dare I say. I know there's loads of floors but yeah the hotel I guess
the residences must be like this whole part. Also the milk never turned up so I don't know maybe
it's all talk. I like the idea of this place but I do like this detail on the ceiling though.
Oh this is nice. These are nice changing rooms. I have checked there's no one in here. All the
bits and bobs are comb. I could do with a comb actually. Okay and there is a steam room in there
as well and there's a separate men's one as well. Then they have all the treatment rooms.
Oh look at this. Have a treatment and then chill in here. Flavoured water. Nibbly bits. Oh we saw
that tea. Was it the Cournotte? Very nice. Oh that's what I need in the room. A kettle.
This is lovely in here. A lot more modern than I thought it would be
but triple one skin. I've had a few of their products before. They are beautiful. They did
have a few more things like weights and stuff but there was like someone in the corner but
yeah that was a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be. Definitely a brand upgrade. I think
I read it was someone a different brand before so looks like it's been refurbed. Oh hold on a minute

Oh this is a bit of a hidden gem up here. Oh look at the view.
Oh this is lovely. Yeah I think they just need like a bit of a separation. It feels a bit like
you're it's a bit too exposed. Do you know what I mean? There's a little bookshop over there.
There's this gorgeous lounge area. Oh this is really nice. Everyone's on zoom calls. How
depressing. Oh look at these lamps. Are these Tiffany? I don't think it's serviced. No sadly
not. I do question whether half the people in here are actually staying here because you can
just walk in. Either way nice little cozy gem. There's nothing quite like loads of people on
zoom calls with no headphones on. Actually I'm vlogging but I do try to be quiet in my defense.
Ah that's the window that goes through to the palm court. That's what it's called. Oh let's go
and have a look at the shops. Oh that's a good shot right there. I think this hotel's a bit
Marmite to be honest. You either want this kind of old school charm or it's a bit like the goring
or you know the Ritz. Right we've got this little like shopping area. Oh come on camera.
Oh they have a plaza bear. Oh my gosh that's so soft. He's cute. Got the merch game. They've got
loads of it. It's weird because it's so hidden. I feel like they need to almost display it near
where the afternoon tea is. I think a lot of tourists would probably buy some of this or
maybe this is the scent. Is this it? Gardenia? Maybe? This is so hidden. Okay I'm going to talk
over no doubt singing in the background. Look at this. Oh they can't be selling much of this at all.
I think it's a bit lost in this little shopping area. $30. I think that's pretty reasonable
actually. This is only $30. I mean for a t-shirt that's $10 for a block of post-its. That's kind of
fun. I do really like all of this. It's just like you are not going to find any of this stuff if
you're staying in the hotel unless you are wandering around. Which as you saw there's not
many people around at all. Even a whole section for dogs, for pets. And then downstairs you have a
I guess maybe it used to be something. I don't know. This is very very strange. Very strange.
I don't know. I feel like they need to have some of that stuff like in the cabinets here.
Or have like a cute little car or like a little pop-up. Do you know what I mean? We've seen all these
kind of things at the bougie hotels in London. Like they could have a whole like kind of fake
corner shop with just the plaza stuff. I'm telling you like 25% of people doing afternoon tea would
probably buy something. I don't know. I'm making that up but it feels like a missed opportunity.
And then that's it. You cannot access any other areas. They've got them like full on closed off
now. Which is what it is. I think there's a ballroom somewhere in the depths. But chandelier gorgeous.
Yeah it's not necessarily a hotel where they're gonna like know your name when you come in. Which
I think is quite surprising. Although when I did arrive here, bell services they were like on it
at the door. But I've gone in and out a few times. They don't really say hello to you. A couple of
people just kind of go they say hi. But I feel like they need to kind of have a bit confidence
to be like good afternoon. How are you today? I don't know. We stayed at a few hotels and
yeah everyone's nice. But it just seems a bit. It's almost like a bit awkward and I can't quite
put my finger on it. But one thing I wanted to show you is in room dining. There's even a steak
with some sides. $15. And there is a non-negotiable tip of 22% mandatory charge.
Yeah I mean yeah. And then $12 delivery charge. So that is expensive. I don't know if I...
I always like to show like a breakfast and a dinner in these videos. But maybe I'll just
show you breakfast. But the main reason I wanted to show you in room dining. They've got these
desserts to share. And they have the home alone sundae. So yeah the 16 scoops of ice cream
and the toppings from the movie. Guess how much this is? Remember it hasn't got brownies. It
hasn't got like cookies or anything fancy added. It's going to be quite big. $350. Three what?
Plus 22 percent. Plus 12 percent. Hold on. $439. 400. Divided by 1.3 on a good day to UK.
£337 for those watching in the UK. And the crazy thing is on TikTok I saw at Christmas
they sold out. There were people who were like I went to the plaza, we tried to get the home alone
sundae but they were out of stock. They have got some expensive stuff. Yeah $110 or $100 is the
entry price point of red wine. A bottle of plonk. And they have a full champagne menu as well.
Honestly I've not really seen this at any hotel. Some hotels obviously will run out and get what
you want. But this is really really premium. Which I'm actually very surprised. I mean room service
1400 quid. I feel like they need there's something missing in this hotel. And I don't mean it in like
a really bad way. I just think they need something else. It doesn't really feel like that much of a
destination. I think yeah that area is so wasted up the top that I think they could make a fortune.
I think that area with the chandeliers is gorgeous but just feels a bit cold and open.
And as you saw afternoon tea was really busy. But they could definitely make more money on the merch.
Anyway what do I know? In a minute we'll go for a drink. Okay I have come down to
the Palm Court bar. It was kind of a free for all. If there's a seat free you can have it.
A little bit of a peruse of the cocktails. It seemed more of like a cocktail place.
They've got quite the selection. Some on screen. It's quite nice. It's quite nice in here.
I like that they dim the lights. I think that might be the most expensive glass of champagne
I've seen in a hotel. Yeah $37 plus tax plus tip. We've gone for a Hemingway daiquiri for $30.
But yeah I like the mood lighting in here. The service was very friendly. Also I do think this
place would be completely full if they gave you salty snacks. Plaza just go to Costco get a load
of salty snacks. This place would be full. It is $30 for some fries. Guys I can't afford this at
I think I'm just gonna have a drink and yeah we'll get breakfast in the morning.
I think food in this hotel is so expensive. But yeah they don't have like a separate
restaurant. Like looking at this everyone's just having drinks in the other cozy room.
They're just having drinks so yeah it's not like a dine-in kind of place I don't think.
And we've come into a little bit of a turn down service. I am accidentally collecting
umbrellas at this point. They have dropped off some freebie water. I think I mentioned
earlier that you didn't get free water but you do. They have popped down the mats which is
appreciated. I don't think anything else. Yeah it just looks better with less lights on doesn't it?
And then they have opened the bed. They know there's only one person here. That's a bit sad
actually isn't it? And they've popped the slippers down there and another bottle of water but that
looks cozy. Although I have just noticed. Oh dear that's had a bit of a chew hasn't it? And um
some stains on the thing. That's not me I promise. Oh dear I think someone's dropped some coffee on
that. Oh my gosh it's like sideways rain outside but anyway I think that's it for the evening so
I will see you in the morning. Good morning New York. I slept so well. Very comfy bed.
No noises. It was bliss. This might be one of the most expensive breakfasts I have ever seen.
Continental $44. Obviously plus tax plus tip. The Plaza American which maybe is like there.
Could be a good one. Uh signatures. Pause if you want to see. Yeah it's not cheap and look at this.
Big Ben breakfast tea. $13 for a tea. I mean wow. Okay not cheap at all. I do find when hotels
don't really have much of a restaurant setup they tend to have ridiculous prices on stuff. I don't
know if it's to like price people out. I'm not sure. Um yeah there's like no one in here. I think
that was maybe about not even 10 minutes. It looks okay. It's not the most exciting breakfast in the
world. So I think they could have done a little bit of a grilling on the tomatoes. Potatoes. Yeah
we'll try we'll try. And I went for the uh pork sausage and then it comes with uh three slices
of toast and then the jams and you've got honey and stuff there. So yeah and then with juices were
orange apple and grapefruit. I went for the green. Wow $52. It's okay. The sausage is okay. I don't
know. I maybe I'm a bit spoiled in the UK. A bit. They could have been roasted a little bit more.
Potatoes are nice but it's just potato at the end of the day. Sourdough. Some of it's a bit
burnt for my liking but never mind. $66 later. Do you know what? I said to them because I didn't eat
like all of it. They were like do you like it? And I was like it's a bit mid. I was like these
tomatoes aren't very roasted. Like the overall it wasn't like that warm. I know I was filming before
um and they were super nice um and they did offer to kind of like make me something else
which I appreciate. So yeah everyone's really lovely. It's just very bit mid. But I do think
this hotel is definitely a bit Marmite. You're gonna love it or hate it. If you like the oldie
stuff this maybe is for you. I just personally think it's so expensive what it is. I was looking
on Google like there's so many cool quirky hotels nearby that are $300, $500. This at $1200 to $1500
a night for entry room is. But at the same time it's also fully booked. So looking over the next
couple of weeks this room isn't even available. So what do I know? But anyway I hope you enjoyed
this video. I would say the hotel's a lot cleaner, a lot nicer. The water is hot um than I thought it
was gonna be. It's just a little bit rough around the edges and yeah things don't quite flow as I
thought. But they don't have a proper restaurant which is a bit annoying. Anyway thank you so much
for watching. I really appreciate you and I will see you in a few days time. Remember new videos
every Friday at 6pm UK time and hopefully maybe by the time it's gone up I'm doing food reviews
on a Tuesday. Hopefully I am. Anyway thanks so much for watching. Thumbs up. Bye guys.
