Scooby-Doo and the gang were taking a vacation from solving mysteries and had volunteered to
be camp counselors at Craggy Mountain Camp. Velma read from the camp's brochure.
Craggy Mountain has more pits and drop-offs than any other mountain in the state,
and the top of the mountain is always covered in fog.
Like I don't care if it has more craters than the moon,
as long as the camp's kitchen is well-stocked.
Shaggy licked his lips.
Right, Scoob?
Uh-huh.
Scooby agreed.
When the gang arrived, Mr. Ross, the owner of the camp,
and the other counselors, Bruce, Benny, and Pauline, met them.
I'm so glad you kids made it, Mr. Ross said.
You're really going to bring home the bacon for me this year?
Bacon?
Scooby's tummy started rumbling.
Oh, look, said Benny.
The famous Mystery Inc. kids are here.
I guess we all know who will be the star counselors this summer.
As if we didn't do a good enough job by ourselves last year, mumbled Pauline.
Mr. Ross asked the other counselors to show Shaggy and Scooby where the camp's mess hall was.
He knew they'd be hungry.
Mr. Ross showed the rest of the gang to their cabins.
Having famous detectives like you as counselors has really helped business,
and I don't mind telling you I love making money.
Fred, Daphne, and Velma hadn't volunteered so Mr. Ross could make more money.
They'd volunteered because they liked working with kids.
At the mess hall, the cook had prepared a delicious meal for Shaggy and Scooby.
Say, it's a good thing you guys are here, Bruce told them.
Maybe you can solve the mystery of the ghastly giant.
Yeah.
It's big and hairy and it tries to grab you if you wander away from your friends,
Pauline added in a spooky voice.
Or so the legend goes.
All right, the campers are here, Benny announced.
Benny, Bruce, and Pauline ran out of the mess hall to greet the kids.
Shaggy and Scooby followed, thinking about what the counselors had told them.
Zoinks, ghastly giant?
Shaggy gulped.
They didn't mention that in the brochure.
Roll away, Scooby answered.
The kids were very excited when they saw their old counselors.
Many of them had been coming to the camp for years and were all friends.
They were especially happy to see Scooby and the gang.
I can't wait to tell my friends back home that Mr. Yank is here, said one of the kids.
They'll want to come next year.
Yes, tell all your friends, Mr. Ross grinned.
With all the money I'll make, I can retire a wealthy man.
Just then, a fancy limousine drove up the dirt road.
Jackie's here,
cried one of the girls.
All the campers went running up to the limo to say hello.
That must be the little girl whose mom is Satin, the world-famous pop star, said Daphne.
Talk about arriving in style.
When the chauffeur opened the back door, Satin emerged and said,
Ah, really, Jackie darling?
I don't know why you insist on coming here.
After all, I can afford to send you to a much better camp.
Mom, there's no better camp than Craggy Mountain.
All my friends are here, Jackie answered.
She jumped out of the limo to greet her friends.
That night, the campers sat around the campfire in the cool mountain air.
They sang songs and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows.
Like Scoob, Shaggy said between bites.
Jackie can play some really groovy tunes.
Groovy runes, Scooby agreed, popping another marshmallow into his mouth.
As the fire began to die down, it was time for spooky stories.
Pauline told the scariest story.
It was about how the ghastly giant would hide in the fog
and wait for an unsuspecting hiker to come along.
She whispered about how, when a hiker would get near,
Rawr! I gotcha!
Benny suddenly jumped out of the dark, wearing a scary mask.
He gave everybody a fright, Scooby and Shaggy most of all.
The next day, during arts and crafts,
the camp counselors played another practical joke on Scooby-Doo and Shaggy.
Pauline told them to sit in a place of honor,
but when they did, a loose board flipped art supplies into the air.
They were instantly covered with sticky glue and other stuff.
Like, is it just me, or do the other counselors seem jealous
that Mr. Yank is here this summer? Shaggy asked.
Scooby shrugged.
Soon it was time for a big hike to the top of Craggy Mountain.
On the way up, Mr. Ross tried to convince Jackie to talk her mother
into giving a special benefit concert for the camp.
Bruce continued to tell Shaggy and Scooby spooky stories about the ghastly giant.
As they climbed higher and higher, it got foggier and foggier,
and Shaggy and Scooby got more and more nervous.
Soon it was so foggy, it was hard to see anything.
Stay on the path, Velma instructed loudly.
We're almost at the top!
Suddenly, a huge creature appeared out of the mist.
Zoinks!
cried Shaggy.
Like, it's the giant!
Scooby backed away and motioned for the kids to follow him.
Everybody scattered, and there was a lot of confusion.
Velma was trying to keep the kids together when someone crashed into her.
Oh no, my glasses!
she cried.
The creature kept growling and picking up kids, looking at them,
then putting them down again.
Hey, giant! Leave those kids alone!
Fred yelled.
All of a sudden, the giant spotted Jackie and ran straight toward her.
At the same time, Shaggy and Scooby backed into a prickly bush.
Ouch!
They were so surprised, they leaped right into the ghastly giant and knocked him over.
Good job, Shaggy and Scooby!
shouted Daphne.
That's the way to stop a big beastie!
Daphne wanted to get Jackie back to the camp.
With Scooby and Shaggy, they ran down the mountain.
But the giant creature was right behind them.
Zoinks!
Like, don't look now, Scoob!
But we've still got company!
Big, ugly company!
cried Shaggy.
Ruh-roh!
Scooby answered.
Jeepers!
I wonder why the creature is so interested in Jackie!
Daphne said.
Back on the mountaintop, Velma finally found her glasses.
And something very interesting.
Jinky!
Satin's business card!
Velma frowned.
What's this doing here?
Velma looked around.
She didn't see anyone.
Not the giant.
Not the other counselors.
Not the kids.
No one!
Velma looked at Satin's card again.
She was sure it was a clue.
She tucked it away and quickly started down the mountain trail.
Fred was able to get most of the kids back to camp.
But the rest of the gang, the other counselors, Mr. Ross and Jackie were all still missing.
The cook said he hadn't seen anyone since they all left on the hike.
Fred looked around and noticed some boxes nearby.
They hadn't been there before.
He was sure he'd found a clue.
Meanwhile, things weren't going so well for Daphne.
She was so worried about getting Jackie away from the giant
that she lost her footing and slipped into a crevice.
Like, don't worry, Daph!
Shaggy cried.
Scooby and I will save you!
While Scooby and Shaggy were pulling Daphne to safety, the creature snatched Jackie.
Then it ran into the forest with her under one arm.
Help!
Jackie cried.
The giant didn't get far.
Velma was hiding in the trees.
Once the giant got close, she pulled back a branch and let it go.
Smack!
The branch hit the giant right in the face and he dropped Jackie.
Velma took Jackie's hand and they ran into a nearby cave to hide.
Velma told Jackie about finding her mother's card on the mountaintop.
I wouldn't be surprised if my mom was behind this.
She didn't want me to come here this summer.
She's probably trying to scare me into leaving.
Back at camp, Daphne convinced Scooby and Shaggy to act as bait
to find out if the giant was only interested in Jackie.
Oh, man!
Shaggy grumbled.
Like, those mean old counselors are probably behind this whole giant thing.
It's probably just another practical joke.
Scooby sniffed in agreement.
They didn't realize the giant was watching them at that very moment.
The giant cried.
Zoinks!
Shaggy cried.
Like, run!
Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby weren't the only ones who got a big fright.
They immediately ran into the other counselors who were hiding in the bushes.
Everyone was scared!
Bruce was so scared he started shaking.
Benny was shivering.
And Pauline was quaking.
They joined Scooby, Shaggy and Daphne and ran as fast as they could in the other direction.
Just as the creature got within grabbing distance,
Shaggy and Scooby hid behind some trees and stuck out their feet.
The giant tripped and went flying!
Benny was really impressed.
Wow, guys!
That was some pretty fast thinking!
Thanks!
No problem!
Scooby said.
Unfortunately, the giant flew into the cave where Velma and Jackie were hiding.
Jinkies!
Look out!
cried Velma.
Before anyone knew what had happened, the creature had grabbed Jackie again.
But the giant didn't get very far.
Fred had left the other campers with the cook and had come back just in time to snare the creature.
Now let's see who this really is!
Fred began to pull off the creature's mask.
I'll bet it's my mom's chauffeur!
Jackie said.
Nope!
Velma smiled.
It's Mr. Ross!
Velma declared.
But why?
I used the camp's skit costumes to dress up like the ghastly giant.
I was going to kidnap Jackie and get her rich mother to pay a lot of ransom money!
Mr. Ross grumbled.
I would have gotten away with it too if...
We know!
If it wasn't for us meddling kids and our dog!
The Mystery Inc. gang laughed.
The counselors were really grateful to Shaggy and Scooby for saving them.
They apologized for being so mean to them before.
Pauline even gave Scooby-Doo a big kiss.
When Jackie's mom found out about Mr. Ross's plan, she decided to buy Craggy Mountain Camp.
That way the camp wouldn't have to close down.
And Jackie could continue going there with all her friends.
It was another great summer for the kids thanks to the gang's skillful mystery solving.
