AI GeneratedThis video demonstrates how to prepare \"chicken of the woods\" mushrooms, a variety prized for its chicken-like taste and texture. The creator guides viewers through the process of identifying, cleaning, battering, and frying the mushrooms to create a delicious, gluten-free meat alternative.
This is chicken of the woods mushroom which we just found and harvested the other day
and now we're going to make some fried chicken out of it. It is one of the most famous edible
mushrooms because of its vibrant appearance and because its taste and texture is similar to chicken.
Always make sure you know exactly what mushroom you have before trying to eat it.
You can post pictures of it in a mushroom identification Facebook group to verify.
The first thing we do is make sure all the dirt and bugs are off of the mushroom by
rinsing it with water. Then we just use some paper towel to pat the mushroom dry.
Once the mushrooms are cleaned and then patted dry we cut them into strips. The base of the
mushroom tends to be more tough so you can just cut that off along with any other pieces that
seem weird. Once all the mushrooms are cut into strips you can start preparing whatever batter
you're going to use to fry up the mushrooms. My wife can't have gluten so we're using gluten-free
flour and then just whatever spices we had in the cabinet. I think it was salt, pepper,
garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
So then we just whisk that together and then start preparing the wet ingredients.
We mix together two eggs, one cup of flour, all the same spices, and a little bit of water.
And also a little bit of cornstarch.
Then we just fill a pan with some cooking oil and then dunk the mushrooms into the wet batter
and then into the dry batter and then back into the wet batter and then finally into the pan.
After flipping it a few times and waiting about five minutes
it should be fully cooked and ready to eat.
And there it is the chicken finger of the woods.
Then we just do the same thing to another handful of the strips.
Make sure to cook it thoroughly and if you've never eaten it before
only eat a couple bites to see how your stomach reacts because some people can have some stomach
problems. It all smelled so good I couldn't wait any longer so I took a bite and I was not
disappointed. We're going to save the rest of the mushroom strips for another recipe
but you can go ahead and freeze them in a bag or you can even dehydrate them in a food dehydrator.
