Backrooms 2026 Behind the Scenes How Kane Parsons Turned Backrooms Into a Movie
Go behind the scenes of the Backrooms movie and discover how creator Kane Parsons transformed an internet creepypasta into a full-length A24 studio film.
Much of the film's eerie "VHS" look wasn't actually shot on old tape cameras. Scenes were captured on high-end digital cinema cameras and later transformed using advanced post-production techniques. The film also blends practical filmmaking with CGI.
Even though the Backrooms appear low-budget and chaotic on screen, the production was highly sophisticated. Massive sets - some reaching 30,000 square feet - were built to create endless fluorescent office spaces.
Inspired by liminal spaces from the late 80s and early 90s, the production design focuses on creating an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and deeply unsettling. Before filming, Kane Parsons used Blender to previs entire environments.
From an internet meme to the Backrooms (lost footage) series to a major motion picture - this is how Backrooms was made.
