Welcome to the Meadow House Diary, page 1 of our story.

We decided to leave the UK in early 2025, and by the end of the year, we had packed up our life, driven across Europe and settled into renovating an abandoned farmhouse in the North of Italy. With two children, two dogs and another baby on the way, this first winter was one of hard work, but so much joy.

We're here to share our story of starting over with you all - what's life really like as expats (with kids) in Italy? How did we manage to find a house we loved and get mortgage free in our 30s? Why are we choosing to build an off grid life here?

There's so still much to learn, so much to figure out - and we want to emphasise that we really are just two ordinary people, who decided to seek a more beautiful life for our family. That seeking led us to Italy, but it might lead you somewhere else.
