Breaking Plans is an award-winning, powerful and heartfelt short film written and directed by and starring filmmaker and actor, London Houghton, who created the project at just 9 years old. Born and raised in Seal Beach, California, London brings both creativity and emotional depth to this moving story about friendship, trust, and the challenges many kids face quietly alone and at home.

London stars as Emma, a 5th grader whose close friendship with Sarah (Gracelyn Surtees) and Amelia (Zoe Tran-Wofford) is shaken when Sarah suddenly walks away from both their bond and an important school project—without a word. As the truth unfolds, the story reveals deeper family struggles and explores how empathy and the bonds of childhood friendship provide support and empower children to navigate life’s hardest moments—together. Even when adults are not aware.

Also starring Carter Jude Dau as Emma’s brother, Drake, Breaking Plans was filmed in London’s hometown of Seal Beach, on iconic Main Street and at McGaugh Elementary School.

Created by and told through the eyes of children, Breaking Plans is a powerful reminder that young voices hold the power to tell meaningful, moving and inspiring stories—infused with sincerity, honesty and heartfelt purity.
