President Trump reports that Iran has agreed to forgo nuclear weapons, though he is weighing a diplomatic deal against more severe options. While Secretary of State Marco Rubio claims military victory over Iran's industrial base, the U.S. continues naval blockades and defensive strikes. Simultaneously, Trump is urging Israeli PM Netanyahu to scale back military escalations in Lebanon.
President Trump says Iran has agreed to no nuclear weapons as he weighs two options on
what to do with the regime.
It comes as he urges the Israeli leader to scale back escalation in Lebanon.
Joining us now live is NTD White House correspondent Iris Tell.
Good afternoon, Iris.
What's the latest?
Good afternoon to you as well, Steph.
So President Trump telling your Post in a new interview that Iran has agreed to not
to obtain a nuclear weapon.
Of course, that has been a major bone of contention between Washington and Tehran in recent talks.
The president also saying that he believes that Iran's new supreme leader has been involved
in talks to end the war, adding that he would like to meet him.
Of course, that's only if things work out, as he says he's weighing now two options on
Iran.
Watch.
Now, I have to make a determination.
Do we sign a deal or we do it the other way?
And the other way is not nice.
What will the other way achieve that certainty?
It would be over.
There wouldn't be any bullshit.
There wouldn't be any talking.
There wouldn't be any delays.
But, you know, I'd rather do it the nice way from a humanitarian standpoint.
And Secretary of State Marco Rubio testifying before Congress this week says that Iran is
now discussing and agreed to negotiate aspects of this nuclear program that it refused to
even talk about just a month ago and today before lawmakers.
Secretary Rubio says that the U.S. has achieved its military objectives and a victory against
Iran.
Watch.
We define victory.
We define victory as destroying their defense industrial base, significantly reducing the
number of missile launchers that they possess, significantly reducing their stockpile of
drones.
And we achieved all of those in addition to destroying what they had left of an air force
and wiping out their entire conventional Navy.
Those are all gone.
So I consider that victory.
And we did, too.
And that was the purpose of epic fury.
Meanwhile, the U.S. and Iran trading strikes.
Central Command saying that Iran has been targeting regional and neighbors by launching
missiles toward them, though all of them failed to reach their intended targets.
The U.S. also striking an Iranian oil tanker heading towards an Iranian port in the late
ist movement and to enforce its naval blockade against Iranian ports.
The Central Command also saying that the U.S. has been carrying out defensive strikes against
Iranian threats.
Meanwhile, President Trump in the interview confirming that he did have a heated phone
call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he urged him to scale back plans
to strike Beirut and Lebanon.
Here's what the president says.
Watch.
I wouldn't say angry.
I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon, you know, some point
as it may be.
We're going to step this step, but I have a very good relationship with him.
Well done.
Well, together.
And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a new interview with CNBC today says that
while he and President Trump sometimes might have tactical disagreements over the war,
but they always agree on many things, especially on the need to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions
to ensure safety, not only for Israel and the Middle East, but also for the United States.
Here's what a prime minister says.
Let's take a look.
President confirmed that he that he said, you're effing crazy.
How did you react to that?
What really happened in that call?
Well, we have common goals.
Sometimes we have is in the best of families.
You have these tactical disagreements.
We always find a way to work them out and and we do so as great friends.
We can disagree in the morning and by the afternoon we have common action.
And President Trump's intervention comes amid reports that Tehran was threatening to pull
out of peace talks with the U.S. amid Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
The president, though, making clear that talks with Iran have never stopped in recent days
and is still ongoing continuously.
Back to you.
Thank you, Iris, for that report.
