This challenging half day hike lies in the mountains of Fiordland National Park. A tramping track with waterfall views, tree root ladders, and often snow opens itself out to what is possibly the most beautiful lake in the country.
This is Lake Marian.

In today's adventures, Candice, Lauren and I are doing the Lake Marion hike
and we are at the start of the track. Lauren already jumping on the suspension bridge, let's go!
So this is the part where I take off my hat because it's so hot.
That's what I get for not watching when I'm walking. This track is pretty much all uphill.
It's challenging but it's nothing crazy. It is a tramping track so there are lots of
rocks and tree roots and streams and things like that to navigate.
It's just beautiful really. I remember the first time I did the Lake Marion track
which was in October last year. I hadn't done anything like this since I was a teenager
and I remember it being blooming hard and wanting to reach the top and I mean
like the journey was still beautiful but my goal was reaching the top and now like I look back
in comparison to some of the other tracks I've done like Ben Lomond and Isthmus Peak and
they're not the same advanced tramping track but stamina wise they're definitely a lot more
challenging. Like the one that I would most liken the Lake Marion track to would probably be
Lake Surprise in the Tongariro National Park and there are parts that are similar to this
like you're scrambling up a lot of rocks and you climb down a waterfall and stuff like that. It's
definitely a wee bit easier this time and I'm enjoying the scenery a bit more. Our first glimpse
of snow. It's very icy snow. Oh wow it's actually like a winter wonderland. We are so close to the
top now. I can feel it. You can see all the snow-covered mountains all around us
and it is so beautiful and I'm so excited to see how much snow is up there knowing that we
have just walked through a little bit of snow now. Oh my god it's amazing.
We made it. The most beautiful piece of paradise in the middle of Fiordland National Park. I'm so
excited to be here. We've spent about 45 minutes to an hour up here taking lots of photos,
eating some food and yeah we're gonna try and head back down before the rain hits
and I won't be filming on the way down because I need both hands. Lots of scrambling and rocks
to navigate but I hope you enjoyed coming on this journey with us and we'll see you again next time.
This is Lake Merion. A beautiful place. I'm just filming myself.
