Our First Home in Vietnam, It Just Got Real! - Da Nang House Tour
After living in apartments in Vietnam for over a year, we’ve officially moved into our first house abroad here in Da Nang, Vietnam. This is a huge life update for us and marks a completely different chapter in our journey living in Southeast Asia.
Moving from the UK to Vietnam changed our lives in ways we never expected. What originally started as a move abroad and a different lifestyle has slowly become something much bigger — creating a real home here in Asia. For the first time since leaving England, this feels like a genuine commitment to life overseas.
Da Nang has become one of the fastest-growing destinations for expats, digital nomads, remote workers, and couples looking for a better quality of life abroad. With beaches, mountain scenery, lower living costs, incredible food, and a growing international community, more people are now searching for what life in Vietnam is really like long term.
In this video, we share our first house in Vietnam after previously only living in apartments. One of the biggest reasons for the move was the rapid development happening across Da Nang. The city is expanding quickly, with constant construction and new buildings appearing everywhere. While this growth is exciting for the future of Vietnam, it also creates challenges for people living in apartments, especially when it comes to noise and day-to-day lifestyle.
Living in a house in Vietnam offers a completely different experience compared to apartment living. It brings more space, more privacy, and a stronger connection to the local neighbourhood and community. As expats living abroad, these are the kinds of things that slowly become more important over time.
Vietnam continues to grow in popularity among people leaving countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, and the United States in search of a different pace of life. Rising living costs in the West, combined with the flexibility of remote work and online income, have led many people to explore long-term life in Southeast Asia.
Da Nang in particular is often considered one of the best cities in Vietnam for expats because of its balance between modern infrastructure and relaxed coastal living. Many people compare it to places like Bangkok, Bali, or Kuala Lumpur, but Da Nang still feels more authentic and less overcrowded than many major digital nomad hotspots.
This video is not just a house tour — it’s about building a life abroad and what happens when travelling slowly turns into living somewhere permanently. From moving countries to adapting to Vietnamese culture, this journey has been about far more than just travel.
For anyone researching:

this video gives a real look at what that transition can actually feel like.
Vietnam has become one of the most exciting countries in Southeast Asia for people looking to build a new lifestyle abroad, and this move feels like another major step in that journey.
A lot of foreigners living in Vietnam long term actually begin by staying on tourist visas or e-visas, which currently allow many nationalities to stay for up to 90 days. A common lifestyle among expats and digital nomads in Southeast Asia is doing “visa runs,” where people leave Vietnam every few months to nearby countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, or Singapore before re-entering to renew their stay. For many people living abroad in Asia, this becomes part of the routine while deciding whether they want to settle more permanently.
However, once people start building a real life in Vietnam — renting houses, joining gyms or golf clubs, building businesses, or settling into long-term routines — many begin looking into more stable visa options such as business visas or a TRC (Temporary Residence Card). A TRC allows foreigners to stay in Vietnam for a much longer period without constantly leaving the country for visa renewals, making everyday life far easier and more secure for long-term expats.
As Vietnam continues to grow in popularity among remote workers, online business owners, retirees, and couples moving abroad, conversations around visas, residency, and long-term living in Southeast Asia are becoming increasingly common. For many expats, there’s a big difference between travelling through Vietnam and genuinely building a life here — and getting a longer-term visa is often one of the first signs that the move abroad is becoming something more permanent.
