In this international law case decided by the UK House of Lords, the court had to determine whether Augusto Pinochet, as a former head of state, was immune from prosecution (and therefore from extradition) for jus cogens offences. The court found that he was not immune, because those offences, being contrary to international law, cannot have been carried out in the course of his official duties.
