President Trump swearing in Kevin Walsh as the new Fed Chair, calling on him to be totally
independent in his new role.
Now we go live to NTD's White House correspondent Mari Otsu at the White House.
Mari, good evening.
Hey, Iris.
Good evening to you.
That's right.
So President Trump today in that East Room swearing-in ceremony for Kevin Walsh is saying
that he's, quote, totally confident that Walsh will bring back a sense of integrity to the
central bank, saying that in the past few recent years that the bank has, quote, lost
its way and, quote, strayed from its mandate.
The president there saying that it's gotten distracted with concepts like he mentions
diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, as well as some climate policy, but also urging
Walsh to stay totally independent, saying that he shouldn't look to him, President Trump
or anybody else to make these decisions that should be completely independent.
Take a look.
I want Kevin to be totally independent.
I want him to be independent and just do a great job.
Don't look at me.
Don't look at anybody.
Just do your own thing and do a great job.
Kevin will restore confidence in the Fed, which is so important and among Americans
all across the political spectrum.
Kevin will safeguard the Fed's integrity.
Thankfully, unlike some of his predecessors, Kevin understands that when the economy is
booming, it is, that's a good thing.
We don't have to go crazy.
Just let it boom.
We want it to boom.
