Miley Cyrus Honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Global pop icon Miley Cyrus was cemented in Hollywood history on Friday, receiving the 2784th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Grammy winning singer and actress celebrated the career milestone alongside her family, her fiance, Marando, and hundreds of dedicated fans. On my latest album, there's a song titled Walk of Fame, which I wrote way before this precious moment. But my co-writer and my dear friend, Brittany Howard, she closes the track with a poem and it ends with this mantra, you'll live forever. And she sings it as if this star somehow represents immortality. And although I love the lyric, the fact that I won't is what creates the urgency that sets my heart on fire, my life and my art and my desire to break down the walls of any boxes that we've been tricked to believe that exist. The ceremony drew high profile speakers, including designer Donatella Versace and actress Anya Taylor-Joy. From Disney Channel beginnings to global pop icon, from country roots to rock star grits, Miley has never asked for permission to evolve. She's just done it beautifully, unapologetically and always, always authentically. And that is what makes her so special. Not just the voice, which let's be honest, could make taxes sound emotional, but the fearlessness she has to keep becoming.
