Hey, what's up? Zach here. And it is that time of year again where people are up on their feet all
day. Whether you are just standing around statically and putting an absolute ton of
pressure on your foot over a long period of time, or number two, walking potentially very long
distances, putting a ton of miles in on your feet on either unforgiving surfaces or uneven surfaces.
So today I'm going to give you my top five favorite shoes for both walking and standing all
day to hopefully protect your foot this summer from those nagging injuries that can happen when
you're putting a little bit more miles and time on your feet than you are used to. Now in terms
of a shoe for both walking and standing all day, what I would call an everyday type shoe,
it has to have a few things to protect your foot. Number one, enough support around the midfoot so
that you're not sinking into one part of the shoe when you're standing on it all day. That's how you
can get a lot of those kind of nagging types of heel pain like bursitis or just a bruised heel
is where you're standing all day and you just got one hard spot in the rear foot or a midfoot that's
not supporting both your forefoot and your midfoot. Because the same thing can also happen
in the front part of your shoe to the ball of your foot. That's where you can get neuromas,
stress fractures, bursitis, things like that. The next thing it has to have is a dense cushioned
foam, not super soft cushion, right? Not just like a memory foam pillow to where you're going to
kingdom come. But it has to have dense cushion to where it's structural, to where the muscles in
your leg aren't having to fire all the time to keep you stable, but also not a brick either to
avoid some of the issues I talked about first. The last thing is it has to be able to actually
fit your foot. You don't want your foot crammed in a shoe all day to where your feet are cramping
all day and you're having to loosen the laces or take your foot out of the shoe constantly.
So what all these shoes in this list boil down to is comfortable support. And coming in at number
five is the Altra Torin 8. Now this shoe has the least support of all the ones on this list,
I think. You can just bend it here in the midfoot. The thing is, is because it has more of the
anatomic toe box and it does give your big toe a better mechanical advantage and it's able to
spread the load out in the midfoot and the forefoot. Plus it's got a really wide rear foot
and forefoot. The shape of the shoe, the ergonomics of the shoe is what provides all the support. Plus
it's got a little more of the anatomic toe box so you can spread a little bit out so your feet can
spread out a little bit better and it breathes really well. Plus you're not going to get the
cramping in the rear foot. Now Altra's foam is nice and dense but you know it's pretty supportive
and you can fit an orthotic in this really no problem. So I'll also give you a couple of my
favorite orthotics too for standing and walking all day. But you could get an orthotic in this
really easy but just on their own just with the shaping of the shoe they can do really well
especially if your feet swell during the day or if you're someone like I said standing a ton during
the day and gravity is just putting an absolute hurt on the south pole of your body. All right
now coming into number four this shoe's a little bit of a different philosophy versus something
like the Altra's. It is one of the only max cushion shoes that I really trust and I really really like
and it is the Nike Structure Plus. Now if the camera is picking it up these are just worn to
come. I have just worn these so much recently I cannot get enough of them. I'll probably buy
another pair too. Now number one they breathe exceptionally well. They do have a lot of width
in the midfoot. The shape of them on the bottom is wide from rear foot midfoot and into forefoot
kind of like that Brooks philosophy. Now they are a little bit more of a traditionally tapered shoe
but they are wide enough in the midfoot that you're not going to cramp. Now yes they are a little bit
more max cushion. They do have Zoom X and React X foam which traditionally I am not even that big
of a fan of but once again kind of like the Altra's it's the shaping of them. It's the shape
of the midfoot of these shoes that keeps them so stable on foot and with the tuning of the foams
in them they are dense enough that they hold up so well. So torsionally they're really good.
In terms of walking they're fantastic. In terms of just standing all day which I do a lot they're
fine too. To me this is one of the better overall shoes out there. So if you want that kind of
cushioned feeling underfoot like you know like a lot of max cushion like super soft memory foam
type feeling shoes you really like that cushion feel it's just that it can really wreck the tendons
on the outside of your foot the main stabilizers of your foot. These ones you get that cushioned
feel but you don't have to sacrifice the tendons in your leg right your Achilles isn't going to
suffer for it. So in terms of what would be one of my personal favorite shoes on this list the
Structure Plus is really up there plus if you want something like with that quote-unquote max cushion
feel but without some of the issues that come with max cushion shoes this is an absolutely phenomenal
pickup. All right coming in at number three on this list I have been looking around for like the
last 20 minutes for these I cannot find them anywhere here and I'm too stubborn to buy a new
pair and that is the New Balance 860. The New Balance 860 might be the most common shoe I've
recommended recently I have to go back in and look at my list it changes so often because I recommend so many
shoes but these ones what I like most is it has the Fresh Foam X midsole which is like one of my
favorite midsole foams of all time it's comfortable yet supportive you can literally use it for
anything literally any activity you can use it for but it also has a nice thin plate that goes
through it now I hesitate to call it a shank just like right in the middle because it does go
throughout a little bit more of the shoe and so it just does give the shoe a little bit more
structure it keeps the Fresh Foam X a little bit more resilient for longer so if you're really
pounding these shoes especially day after day after day they're gonna stay a little bit more
resilient than maybe some other shoes on this list plus they come in widths they're incredibly
breathable they break in fantastic and the Fresh Foam X redistributes pressure so well so just kind
of like the Nike Structure Plus where you can kind of get the feel of more max cushion but you are not
getting the issues of max cushion it gives you some of the benefits of a rocker bottom without
any of the issues of a rocker bottom because I typically do not recommend rocker bottoms except
for very specific circumstances so really another shoe that is just an absolute catch-all and it's
always going on sale at some point is the 860. All right now coming in at number two honestly
this shoe could have been number one except for a few little things which I'll go through when
when I get to this one in the number one shoe and that is the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25. Now
number one these have like world-class breathability they feel so good in the uppers the midsole is
just is just super critical EVH nitrogen injected EVA. Now the one thing these have that others don't
is the guide rails on the side which are just plastic plates on the outside of the rear foot
so you get a actually a lot of just easy motion in these shoes but they kind of stop that rear
foot from you know deviating into over pronation territory. I mean these guide rails don't do as
much for under pronation or you know something that oversupinates or doesn't their foot doesn't
allow as much pronation it doesn't do as much but because of the construction of the foam and
because of the shape of them it still does really well here with those high arch maybe oversupinators
more c-shaped feet too. To me this is probably on this list the best all-around shoe for any
activity a little bit better than the 860 because I like the guide rails philosophy
better than the full length you know not full length but that midfoot plate philosophy. I like
fresh foam max a little bit better than than the DNA loft foam so it's kind of like it's a little
bit of dealer's choice there but to me these are just a little bit better for more people for more
activity but no matter if you're standing all day or walking all day especially on uneven surfaces
these guide rails on uneven surfaces do so well so if you're not really sure what you're gonna be
getting into and you're like what shoe should I buy this is just it's like a easy just snap
judgment recommendation on this just because it can really help in terms of number one instability
pain but also just ease of walking standing or jogging. All right before I get to the number
one shoe I do want to give out two honorable mentions number one is the New Balance 9060.
It's a little bit more of a casual sneaker. The adsorb foam in them is not as plush and
comfortable as some of these other foams on this but it does have a ton of support and structure
to it so if you throw an orthotic in the 9060 I mean they're going to be fantastic. I've had
my pair for I think going on three four years now and I absolutely love them and so if you're
looking for more like a casual sneaker something a little more you can dress up or dress down
that one is a super pickup. The next one would be the adidas ultra boost. Ultra boost recently that
they've been doing the slipper tongues and I hate slipper tongue shoes for the most part
but a lot of people really like them and they breathe very well plus the boost on the bottom
is so lively it's got that nice x plate on the bottom of them. My wife absolutely loves hers
and she doesn't mind that the slipper tongue so if you're someone that doesn't mind more that
one piece woven upper construction that they do breathe exceptionally well like that they're
fantastic for that so if someone likes those the ultra boost is also going to be just such a great
pickup for you. All right but coming in at number one this shoe really has something for everybody
and that is the Nike ACG Zagama. Now number one this is a Nike with more of an anatomic toe box
so you're getting a lot of same benefits of the ultra but it is a little bit more stable in the
midfoot. Number one it's got a medial and lateral flange in the forefoot to keep it stable and same
thing on the bottom it is so nice and wide from the rear foot through the midfoot then goes into
more of an anatomically shaped toe box and so the stability in these absolutely fantastic the zoom x
cased by the cushion is so supportive in this thing because once again the shaping the rubber
that comes up over you here and here the rear foot's got a flange too plus they grip so well
on the bottom it's not because it's vibramade it's because it's got the lugs have all these
nubs on the bottom of them it has really nice grips and really no matter if you're on unforgiving
surfaces if things are uneven slick surfaces things like that really if you want to take these
literally anywhere you can and so these are just the best like catch-all shoe in terms of the
feeling underfoot they don't have as much of like a plush like a super plush feeling under them
it's a little bit more a tensile almost like a bounce house feeling underfoot but break it in
for one day and they just they get a little bit more of that plush feeling but they retain that
supportive feeling underfoot to me i like that more because it feels like the support of something
maybe like the 90 60 or the adrenaline but also like the comfort of something like the structure
plus it really everything about these i've just absolutely loved and this has been one of my
favorite shoes for a while now and it's one of these shoes that nike just hasn't done a ton
with over the years they kind of kept it what's best with them and so these ones are just such
an easy recommendation number two because they have their own arch built into them it's more of
a zero drop shoe but the arch is nice long and spanning in these so yes you can get an orthotic
and that's great but even without an orthotic they're going to offload the rear foot and the
forefoot really well so no matter if you are walking standing or jogging in these running in
hiking in them they're just going to be so nice and protective for your foot over the long haul
all right but i'd love to know what your favorite shoes are for walking and standing all day let me
know in the comments down below that way when people see this video they've got that many more
recommendations if you want to take a deeper dive into the acgs agama i'll leave that video linked
right here and if you want to see what i think are the biggest lies about max cushion shoes
speaking of i'll leave that video linked right here i'll see you in the next one
