Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe first GTR Challenge UK, presented by Adams JDM, brought together 12 Nissan GT-Rs from the R32 to R35 generations for a quarter-mile shootout. Through a series of qualifying runs and a single-elimination tournament, the event showcased the evolution of the GTR lineage, pitting raw mechanical skill against modern high-horsepower engineering to crown an overall champion.
Introducing Motive Video's first GTR Challenge UK,
proudly presented by Adams JDM,
with support from The Parts Plug, Haltech, Garrett and GTR Hub.
GTR Challenge, created by Motive Video,
originates back to 2009, Australia, at Kudamundra Airport,
where the fastest GTRs go head-to-head in a crazy shootout.
And today, to celebrate the first GTR festival
hitting the British shores in 2026,
we're bringing you a high-octane tyre shredding special.
Welcome to the first GTR Challenge UK.
I'm liking it. I'm liking it. It's exciting.
When the wheels start spinning, the smoke starts smoking,
that ignition cut starts ignition cutting.
So, how does it work?
Today, 12 of the UK's most savage GTRs,
ranging from the 1980s R32 GTR,
all the way through to the latest R35 GTR generation,
battle it out for the title of GTR Challenge champion.
Each car will run two solo qualifying quarter-mile runs,
timed using our V-Box PBT GPS timing tool.
For fairness, their build and their fastest run
will then determine what class they run in
and what cars they run against.
Let's get straight into meeting today's pilots,
their builds and see what times they run.
First up, it's Mike driving his savage
1185bhp,
1995 2.8-litre,
straight-six, single-turbo Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec.
Can't lie, he's boogieing. He's boogieing.
That is a solid first proper run down the runway.
God knows what he ran, but that's definitely a ten-second pass
if I ever have seen one.
And he lays down a strong fastest pass of 10.44 seconds
at a speed of 143 miles per hour.
Next up, it's Marius and his savage 2.8-litre,
2001 1150bhp,
2.8-litre, straight-six, single-turbo
Nissan Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec II.
He's sending it. That car looks angry.
I'm telling you, you can see it moving left to right.
He's definitely driving that.
He runs a rapid fastest pass of 10.17 seconds
at a speed of 147 miles per hour.
Next up is Adam from Adam's JDM,
piloting his crazy 1999 850bhp,
2.8-litre, straight-six, single-turbo
Nissan Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec II Nur.
Let's see what he can lay down.
Yeah, nice. Nice, solid A to B pass there.
That'd be interesting to see what time it ran.
Yeah, spicy, spicy. Love it.
Adam runs a best time of 11.00 seconds
at a speed of 129 miles per hour.
And next up, it's Ibrahim driving his 1995 1150bhp,
monster, 3.2-litre, straight-six, single-turbo
Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec.
Violence. Violence.
Got it right. Got it right all the way to the end.
The shots that thing's letting off, the way he's driving that.
God knows what it looks like in the cabin.
But I'm going to say that was a fast time,
perhaps the fastest time of the day.
And Ibrahim lays down a rapid best run of 10.23 seconds
at a crazy speed of 158 miles per hour.
Stepping up next, it's the oldest of the bunch
and the only RB26 in the challenge.
Welcoming Yusuf, driving the original Godzilla
in his 1989 850bhp, 2.6-litre, straight-six, single-turbo
Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R.
It's all gone wrong, hasn't it?
Clutch slip's come back.
He made it to the end, though.
God knows what's going on.
It's going to be an interesting time.
Definitely a very wild card in these races, for sure.
And he only manages a 12.50 pass at a speed of 107 miles per hour.
Let's see if they can get those issues ironed out before the races.
Oh, the jacket's coming off!
He means business!
Next up, it's the man that needs no introduction.
The man, the myth, the legend.
It's Afi, pulling up in his savage 2001 1,020bhp,
2.8-litre, straight-six, single-turbo Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R.
Let's go.
Put some respect on his name!
It's Afi we're talking about.
God knows what time that was, but that looked a lot quicker than the first run.
And I believe he just ran a 10.77, which was a PB for Afi.
So it's good to see Afi back fighting fit.
And Afi lays down a best qualifying run of 10.77 seconds
at a speed of 134 miles per hour.
Next up, it's the first of six R35 GT-Rs joining us here today.
Welcoming Farouk, driving his 2010 killer 1,100bhp,
3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R.
Let's see what he can lay down.
I like it. Effortless.
This is what you expect over the DCT gearboxes.
However, sometimes with the 35s that I've experienced at my track,
they struggle to get their launch dialed in.
It's either too soft or too aggressive.
That actually looked really, really good.
And he manages to put down a best time of 10.25 seconds
at a speed of 145 miles per hour.
Next up, it's Haas, piloting his 2009 1,020bhp,
3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R.
That looked fast.
Done a Houdini puff and he was gone, you know what I mean?
Also sounded like he's running some form of aftermarket traction control there
because you heard it sounded like doing some trickery at the beginning.
I'm going to say that was a quick run. It looked good. Let's find out.
And Haas manages a best run, almost identical to Farouk's,
of 10.24 seconds at a speed of 145 miles per hour.
Next here today, the most powerful car on the property.
Introducing Chris from JM Imports,
driving a customer's 2017 1,500bhp monster,
4.1-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R.
Let's see what this can lay down.
It's fast.
I don't think anything's going to get close to that today, if I'm honest.
I'm definitely saying that's my pick.
Most powerful car looks the fastest, who would have guessed?
But, yeah, it's fast.
I think the RB boys right now will be praying
that something goes wrong with that gearbox.
That thing's moving.
And he goes the fastest so far, by a long shot,
covering the distance in just 9.30 seconds
at a speed of 164 miles per hour.
That's going to be hard to beat.
And next up is Kyle from JM Imports,
also piloting a customer's savage
2017 1,300bhp,
3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R.
In his practice. I don't know why that looked quicker than his practice.
I'm saying... Yeah, I'm saying that's a mid-nine there.
I reckon that's better than his practice, so let's see. Looks good.
And he runs a rapid 9.61 seconds
at a speed of 156 miles per hour.
These R35s are not messing around.
And next up, it's our good friend, Romain, from RaceCal,
driving a customer's 2011 1,150bhp,
3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R.
Yes!
Hey!
9.86!
Wow, that's a big improvement.
That is a big improvement. So, 9.86 at 154, that's strong.
I think that is the third fastest car so far here today on the solo.
So, that is not bad at all. The top three are all 35s.
And Romain manages a best strong time of 9.86 seconds
at a speed of 154 miles per hour.
Finally today, it's Afi once again,
driving his epic 2017,
775bhp, 3.8-litre, V6, twin-turbo Nissan R35 GT-R Nismo.
Let's go! Let's go! Come on!
I'm usually wrong with this kind of stuff,
but I'm actually going to say that looked quicker than his last run.
And his last run was pretty good.
So, I'm going to say he might have even dipped into the 10.5s there.
But let's see. I reckon it was better.
And the Nismo lays down a best time of 10.51 seconds
at a speed of 136 miles per hour.
Right, with the results now in,
it's time to put the cars in their race classes
based on a mix of their builds, fairness and times.
And we've split them into four classes,
starting with the RH9 class, the fastest three cars.
All R35 GT-Rs, which will battle it out
for the title of RH9 GT-R Challenge Champion.
Next up, it's the Skyline sequential class,
lining up three sequential Skylines.
And then the Skyline H-pattern class,
lining up our two H-pattern Skylines.
And finally, our R35 GT-R class,
consisting of our 10-second R35 GT-Rs.
And this is how it's going to go down.
Listen up. GT-R Challenge is a straight shoot-out,
meaning one-race eliminations.
First to cross that quarter-mile line wins.
No second chances, no excuses.
The winner of the RH9 class wins the day
and the title of the first GT-R RH9 Challenge UK Champion.
The winner of the Skyline sequential class
will then race the winner of the Skyline H-pattern class.
And then finally, the winner of the R35 GT-R class
will race the winner of the H-pattern versus sequential Skyline shoot-out
for the GT-R Challenge winner.
Got it? Good. Let's get it.
First up is the Skyline manual class,
Afi's 34 versus Yousif's 32.
However, Yousif's teammate, Connor, who co-built the car,
is hopping in the driver's seat for this one.
They think they've got the kinks worked out, so this should be interesting.
And joining me for the drags, it's the main man himself,
the GT-R legend, all the way from down under,
Andrew, from Motive Video.
Right, race time, guys. It's been a long time.
This will be interesting.
Ready, set, go!
They both got off mad.
Row, row, row your gears.
That was crazy. Unfortunately, the 32 did look like
something happened up top with his gear shifts.
It's crazy because that 32 in testing weren't looking that quick.
I thought it was going to be a whitewash for Afi,
but it looked like it was a mad race to the eighth at least.
He stayed within probably the half-track by the look of it from here.
It looks like he was putting up a fight.
He was putting up a fight.
We'll just make sure we know who won that and by how much.
Finish line, finish line. Who won that and by how much?
I always love a H-pound 34.
Did you just do this?
You did it.
Oi, was it the midnight purple one or the blue one that won?
Yeah, exactly. I don't know.
From that side, it's by the way.
Yeah, whatever side you're looking at.
Bro, that was an epic race there.
You must have reeled in. It looked like he got out front on you, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He moved off. I did bog a little bit.
It felt like I bogged a little bit, but he was moving off the line.
That was epic, though. That was epic.
All right, bro, you go to the next round.
Perfect. Thank you.
That hit cold cut.
You were in a show. You were with him for a minute.
It was cold cut.
Where? How far did it go?
All the way up. Every gear.
It was hitting cut and then going again.
Mad. So it looks like Afi's racing the winner of the sequential class.
And next up, it's the sequential class.
Now, unfortunately, we've had a casualty after qualifying.
Adam's R34 has suffered a pretty substantial oil leak
from what's suspected to be the front crank seal.
And for safety's sake, he's going to have to forfeit,
leaving two 33s and one 34.
Let's race.
Okey-doke.
The moment is happening, finally.
Okay, we have a little bit of gearbox issue today,
but not a fault on the gearbox.
It's some... We do not know exactly.
But it's not very happy.
Ready.
Bro, that's what I'm talking about.
That's epic.
Three crazy RBs going crazy off the line, all of them sending it.
I want to say the R33 in the centre got away quickest.
Yeah, Mikey got the reaction time, definitely, about Ibrahim's car.
I think Mikey, maybe with all the noises going on,
maybe he pulled a gear early and looked like he bogged down a little bit
or got it wrong going into second,
but then Ibrahim took off and...
Bro, that was mad. And definitely, I want to say the R34 all over the place.
Let's find out who won.
How's the noises, though? I don't even care what happened.
It just sounded that good.
Finish line, finish line. Who won that and by how much?
The winner was the R33 in the middle lane,
followed by two car lengths from the R33 in the left lane,
followed by one car length to the R34.
Man!
Oh, bro!
I'm just struggling.
Yeah, I know.
You can see how... I can launch better than all of them.
I know.
What is the time? Should we go... What happened?
Nope. It doesn't.
All over the place in this car. Jesus!
I wasn't ready anyway. For real.
Yeah?
I swear, I thought something like just to show us
and then I just... I don't know what to do.
To go or to not go.
He's gone.
Reaction time and he held out for an hour.
Reaction time was about a week and a half after you did it, wasn't it?
No, no, no. You took off first.
Yeah, yeah, you got it.
He bogged down.
Yeah, you took off first, then you bogged down.
If he got you, then he had a gearbox issue.
Oh, yeah.
But anyway, you took it, bro. You took it.
Doesn't matter.
Crazy.
So, Mike in a 33 takes the win
and secures a race in the next round against Afi.
Ibrahim's 33 unfortunately struggling due to a gearbox issue
and a boost pipe blowing off mid-track.
Tragic.
But it's one shot, no excuses.
Let's line up Afi versus Mike.
H-pattern versus sequential.
33 versus 34.
I'm going to hit a 10.
Afi, listen.
I think I speak for everyone in the world right now
from the GTR community.
Yeah?
I want you to win with this H-pattern, bro.
Do your best.
Inshallah.
Ready?
He jumped hard.
That was a jump.
No, that was a hop, skip and a jump.
That was a kangaroo, mate.
He got in there.
Have you seen a kangaroo jump?
That was more.
He jumped over a...
Afi, his name's Kangaroo now.
The only thing... He frogged it.
That's the UK one. He did a frog hop.
All right, so, yeah, I gassed him up a little bit.
I said, listen, don't lose for the H-patterns, right?
So, I think the nerves got to him and he jumped a little bit.
So, we'll line him back up and do that one again, yeah?
I think definitely so.
There's no way I can't let Afi have that win,
even though...
I think Mikey then went, oh, and sort of panicked.
So...
The community would be very angry if we didn't run that again.
So, guess what we're going to do?
I mean, technically, you could say that the 33 won
because Afi jumped, but...
Nah, nah, nah, we want to see them go.
Yeah, yeah, we want to see them go.
That was a jump by Afi.
Back up. Just pull away.
Come on.
Lucky, lucky.
We want a good run, though.
You got saved, bro, saved.
He red-lighted, so you're back.
He red-lit.
I'm calling you Kangaroo, I'm calling you a frog.
You jumped.
I thought I did, to be honest.
OK, let's go again.
We're going again, we're going again.
Ready, set, go!
Afi!
He's done it with the H-patterns, bro!
Wow, wow, see?
That's mega.
This is why I love having elimination-style shootouts
because you've got one shot at it,
you don't get a backup.
That's it.
The run's the run.
If you stuff it up too bad, you lose.
That's it.
And you know what?
In qualifying, guess what the faster car was?
It was the 33, bro.
Yeah, that's right.
But, you know, pressure, it all counts for that one run.
And I will say this.
Afi's had more time in the car.
He's been here before.
Mikey's new here, new to the car.
But it doesn't matter.
When you run, you run.
You run, you run!
And that's how it goes.
Do we need to find out how much he won by?
Let's find out, just in case.
Finish line, finish line.
Who won that and by how much?
We're guessing it was the 34.
Hey, power boys!
Let's go!
There we go.
Now Afi's going to try and take out a 35 as well.
I don't know, that might be one step too far.
No, I reckon it's pretty cool.
You reckon he's got it?
In Afi we trust, bro.
In Afi we trust.
Let's go.
Big up to my team, by the way, because we did all right.
On the launch.
No, he bogged down.
And then he left you.
He bogged down.
I'm sure I didn't jump there, did I?
No, you didn't jump there, brother.
But you got the win.
You're the quickest scholar, GDR.
Now you're going to take out an R35.
But you get a break now.
Cool the car down.
We'll run the 35s.
We'll do that, we'll do that.
Get him out, get him out.
Snap your camera, yeah?
Yeah!
And in an incredible race, Afi makes it to the next round,
flying the flag for the H-Patterns.
Next up, it's the R35 GT-R class.
Let's see who he's racing.
And Andrew has commandeered Afi's Nismo for this race.
Let's get it.
We've got Andrew Hawkins in the driver's seat of the Nismo R35.
So it's a thing that I'd never thought in my life I'd see.
Ready!
All right, cool.
So I was about to say, the R35 takes it.
Right lane looks like he took it.
Let me find out.
Finish line, finish line.
Who won that and by how much?
OK, on that one,
although timing said one thing in the qualifications,
it kind of panned out most powerful car won to least powerful.
So now we know.
I can't believe it.
I got to race with Andrew Hawkins.
I'm a cousin.
I love him to bits. He's a good kid.
You advanced. That was sick.
Best reaction time, too.
Bro?
Great avenue there.
I had a bad launch.
I see. Can we go again for a bad launch?
That's it, unfortunately, bro. That is it.
That is it.
Is what it is.
This was technically the lowest powered and slowest of the three.
So my only chance was really to get a whole shot.
But as you know, GTR, when you come off the brake,
it's, yeah, sometimes it's a tenth more than you need.
So...
Don't be speaking excuses to that camera, right?
We saw what happened.
Second off the line.
Yeah.
Where did you come last?
Yeah.
Did you get driven around?
Yes.
Well, actually, two things happened.
I was going to get driven around slowly.
But then engine protection came on.
So it was literally all over, I think, before I got in fourth.
You should have said, I was going to win that.
But then the engine protection came on.
Oh, yeah, yeah. I was going to win that.
And then the engine protection came on.
There you go.
I was going to win it, innit?
You were going to win it, innit?
Bro, you took the win.
You took the W.
Good.
That was it. Best reaction time, too.
And Farouk proceeds to the next round to shoot it out against Afi.
But before we run them,
I think it's time to crown the first champion of GTR Challenge UK.
It's the RH9 Class.
Ready.
That was the JM Imports RH9 Class.
It literally was, innit?
There was no loser.
JM won.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But he also lost.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. True.
That was epic.
I'm going to say the most powerful car.
It looked like it.
It looked like the left lane, the black GTR won that.
And I'm going to say followed by the orange GTR.
It looked like it.
Should we find out?
Let's find out.
Finish line, finish line.
Who won that and by how much?
I need more power.
I need to call my tuner.
I'll give you my guy's details.
That was a clear bus length win to the black R35
followed by the orange R35
and lastly the blue R35 by that three car length.
OK.
So pretty much the runs they ran in qualifying
or their solo runs in testing,
the order of their power and their times
determined what happened here.
Everyone would be like, we could have told you that.
Yeah, I know.
Well, you never know, right?
You never know.
There was no kangaroos either that time.
No one frogged it.
Right, smashed it.
Second place ain't too bad.
Yeah, that was good.
You left at a rocket ship.
It was like...
Your car was moving around the boat.
Yeah, it was moving.
Your launch was on point.
You could feel it.
I think if anything,
you left before Van Tooten and you were...
No, actually, I would say you left second.
Would you?
I might be wrong, though.
I might be wrong.
I think...
I don't know.
A lot happened there.
Romain didn't hit plus enough.
I told you.
It's control, all, up, up.
One, two, plus, plus, plus, plus, plus.
Bro, you smashed it.
Yes, man.
Literally, we were just saying it played out in order.
We thought it would play out.
Literally, qualifying times, you were the fastest.
He was second fastest.
He was third fastest.
Power, you've got the most.
He's got the second most.
It played out how it should have played out.
It sounded, didn't it?
Yeah, brilliant, man.
Congratulations to Chris.
And JM Imports for taking the title.
The first RH9 GTR Challenge UK champion.
Epic.
But now it's time to see Afi versus Farouk.
Manual Skyline R34 GTR versus DCT R35 GTR.
Place your bets and let's race.
Guys, so first I got to race with Andrew Hawkins
and now I get to race with the legendary Afi.
And I got a feeling he's going to catch me on reaction.
I just got to try my best for the R35 community.
Do it for the team, man.
You're up against it.
Let's go.
I believe in you.
Come on, man.
Let's go.
Ready.
Set.
Go.
All right.
That was a bit froggy there.
I think we might need to have a look at the camera on that one
and have a look if there was a bit of kangaroo action.
Mate, I could see the frog action from where I was standing.
He got it perfect in the run with his group of three,
like exactly as he dropped,
but I think he tried to predict a bit too much.
He tried to predict.
Listen, the problem is, when you're racing Afi,
it's pressure, bro.
Is it?
Yeah, listen, he's the man.
I'd better race him then.
He lost his race already.
All right, stop it. You've lost yours.
I think we need to line him back up and do that.
I think so, yeah.
That was froggy.
Froggy?
Kangaroo.
This is GDI Challenge, it's a kangaroo.
Sorry, I think I might have gone a bit big there in the hands.
Oh, my days.
I love you, man.
I'm sorry, man.
I'm sorry I was going a bit quick.
Sorry.
You done, man?
I might have gone a bit too much over there.
Got a little bit froggy out there,
a little bit kangaroo-y, a little bit jumpy,
as we say in the industry.
Yeah.
You know what it is with his record.
It's pressure, isn't it?
It is pressure, man.
I'm not scared of anything, guys.
See, hang on. Go on, go on, go on.
What was it?
It's the pressure, man.
It's the pressure.
I swear to God, it's the pressure of knowing he's like a slingshot.
He's like a slingshot, but you are a slingshot.
All right, cool. Let's go.
Wish me luck.
Get your luck.
Ready, set, go.
Oh, my God.
All right, listen.
Whatever happened, it happened late on in the race.
If the R35 went round Afi,
I'm saying Afi was ahead for most of that race.
Let me find out.
Finish line, finish line.
Who won that and by how much?
That was crazy, bro.
There's a halfway point.
Mega race.
Listen, that is crazy.
For a car that I want to say might have a little bit more power
than the R34 and also a DCT gearbox,
you've got to give it to Afi.
He drove the hell out of that car.
That was killer. That was an awesome race.
I'm glad we...
Yeah, we got that one.
That was a good one.
Bro, listen.
It's been sick.
Shout out to the GTR Challenge.
And tell them about the festival, bro.
Tell them about the festival.
Mate, we're coming.
GTR Festival in the UK, August 15th, 16th, 2026.
But we will run GTR Challenge again next year.
We'll hold it maybe, what, about now?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pipe it up and...
Well, we have our very first winners.
We have our winner of GTR Challenge
and our winner in the RH9 category for GTR Challenge.
Both R35s.
Yep, yep.
But, man, Afi put up a good fight.
He put up a good fight.
That was unreal.
I missed that fifth very slightly.
But that was a good run.
That was a good run.
Sick racing. Sick racing.
Sick racing. Sick racing, bro.
I thought he was coming back for me.
I heard there was, like, half a car in it.
There was, like, nothing in it.
No, I don't... I think I went over the line properly.
You were just in front of the line.
But by a hair.
Yeah, yeah. Like, this much.
Yeah, yeah. Literally, I could see him just, like, there.
Basically, yeah.
So...
Mad race.
You guys left identical this time.
Yeah, yeah. This obviously.
I'm the first one.
And then I spun really bad.
Yeah, yeah.
But that's not an excuse.
This car is just sick, man.
Nothing. It's old versus new.
I know. That was wild.
To have a side-by-side race like that is mint.
That's absolutely perfect.
Oh, it's been amazing, man.
Well done, man.
You are our very first GTR Challenge UK winner.
Awesome.
Oh, man. It's been amazing.
Unreal. That is unreal.
What's happening on the board?
Come here, bro.
Listen, I'm telling you, bro,
you've done everyone proud with that.
Bro, your H pattern, you're f***ing...
I think you're less powered than him.
I don't even know, but all I'm saying is, bro,
you held it right out front into the end.
Lovely.
Epic.
I had a lovely day today.
You did, man.
You set levels, bro.
Amazing.
Absolutely epic.
Today, 12 GTRs pulled up and made history.
The first Motive Video GTR Challenge UK
presented by Adams JDM.
A massive shout-out to all involved
for pulling up and laying rubber for the culture.
And a massive congratulations to JM Imports and Chris
for taking the title here today.
Today would not have been possible
without our sponsors and partners.
Adams JDM, The Parts Plug,
HALtech, GTR Hub and RaceLogic.
And, of course, Andrew, Motive Video.
Links to all can be found down below in the description.
I got to race with Andrew Hawkins,
a day that we never thought would ever come.
20 years we've been watching him, 15, 20 years,
something like that,
and today we're here to race with him.
Yeah, man, good stuff.
And make sure you remember to keep an eye out
for GTR Festival,
which is coming in hot to the UK in 2026.
And it's going to be legendary.
