It combines a characterful 398cc engine with rider-focused technology and premium build quality, offering a balance of sporty performance and practical daily usability for riders of all sizes.
Hi, I'm Grace, and today we're here to take a closer look at a brand new addition to Triumph's
modern classics family, the all-new Speed 400. Fluid, easy handling, and an emphasis on fun
are built in, together with class-leading capability, rider-focused technology,
and category-leading quality and detail. So, let's have a closer look at some of the exciting
features of the Speed 400. Developed from the ground up, the all-new 398cc single-cylinder
engine delivers Triumph's signature characterful, compelling, and responsive power delivery.
And with bright machined cooling fins on the cylinder head, concealed liquid cooling,
and Triumph's trademark black powder-coated engine casings, this new engine bears all the
hallmarks of Triumph's iconic modern classics range. The engine delivers 37.5Nm of torque
and 40PS of peak power for class-leading performance with plenty of character and feel.
The bike's ultra-low emissions far exceed the Euro 5 requirements, while retaining that rich,
deep Triumph exhaust note from the stylish and contemporary upswept silencer. Ride-by-wire
throttle ensures a super smooth and manageable power delivery, while Triumph's advanced switchable
traction control improves safety on challenging road surfaces and when riding in varied weather
conditions. Triumph's torque-assist clutch also features on the Speed 400, giving a light clutch
action with a great lever feel all the way through the slick six-speed gearbox to deliver
light, precise gear selection, with ratios perfectly spread to make the most of this
characterful and torque-rich engine. Triumph motorcycles are renowned for their easy,
fluid handling, and the agile and precise Speed 400 is no different. The chassis making the most
of this exciting new engine platform is an all-new frame with a bolt-on rear subframe and
cast aluminium swingarm, all designed specifically for the Speed 400. The accessible 790mm seat
height paired with the bike's slim waist ensures a generous standover for feet-down manoeuvrability.
This makes the Speed 400 manageable and comfortable for riders of all sizes
without compromising cornering clearance. The engaging roadster riding position delivers the
perfect balance of comfort and control, and there's a relaxed peg position for both the
rider and pillion who also has a grab rail. To make the most of the new chassis, a pair of 43mm
diameter big piston upside-down forks with 140mm of travel are matched to a rear monoshock
making the Speed 400 both comfortable and capable. The bike is fitted with premium-branded
dual-compound tyres and the modern 10-spoke design lightweight 17-inch cast aluminium wheels
help the suspension react quickly whilst also reducing inertia to really make the most of the
400's inherent agility. A powerful four-piston radial caliper and 300mm disc up front and 230mm
disc at the rear benefit from braided brake lines and combine to offer superb feel and stopping
power. ABS comes as standard, developed with Bosch. This system adds safety without feeling
intrusive or diminishing that all-important connection between rider and road surface.
This really is a bike with a fun spirit, sporty yet practical. The Speed 400 comes with a whole
host of premium parts to enhance the riding experience. Moving on to the bike's rider-focused
technology and starting with the instruments. The classic single-dial design is easy to read
with a large analogue speedometer and integrated LCD display which features a clear digital
tachometer, a fuel gauge that shows range remaining, average and current fuel consumption,
a prominent gear indicator, plus an odometer, clock, service indicator and two trips.
The display is also pre-wired to show the status of the heated grips should you wish to add this
accessory and navigating all these functions is simple and intuitive via the neat handlebar
mounted scroll button. You'll also find a handy USB-C socket conveniently located on the side of
the instruments so charging accessories such as smartphones and navigation systems couldn't be
easier. The Speed 400 has all LED lighting. The powerful headlight features a distinctive
daytime running light with Triumph DRL signature while the taillight also includes a modern light
signature together with moulded light guides and Triumph branding. Slim LED indicators complete
the package. Visibility is excellent both in terms of seeing and being seen by other road users.
And speaking of being seen, the Speed 400 has three distinctive and dynamic two-tone colour
schemes, each with a prominent Triumph Tank graphic. Choose from this vibrant Carnival Red,
a vivid Caspian Blue or the striking monochrome Phantom Black options. And for customising your
ride, there are more than 25 dedicated genuine accessories available for the Speed 400.
From styling and comfort to luggage and security, you can accessorise every ride to suit your
individual style and needs, including luggage racks and a twin outlet silencer, all the way
through to engine protection bars, wind beating screens and alarms. There's a genuine Triumph
accessory to suit to every rider. And the best bit, they're all designed by Triumph in-house.
So not only do you have the peace of mind that they'll fit properly and suit your new bike
perfectly, they're also covered by Triumph's two-year unlimited mileage warranty. So there
you have it, the all-new Speed 400. It's a bike that delivers class-leading performance and the
very latest in rider-focused technology. The perfect combination of iconic design DNA and
genuine modern capability.
