Join me for a calm early morning walk through the village of Meysey Hampton in the Cotswolds, England. This walk follows quiet lanes, open countryside and traditional stone cottages as the village slowly begins its day.
The countryside is peaceful, the light is soft and the atmosphere reflects the calm rhythm of rural England in the early hours of the morning.
Meysey Hampton is a small village in Gloucestershire, set close to the River Coln in the eastern Cotswolds. The village has ancient origins and appears in historical records dating back to the Domesday Book.
The name “Meysey” is believed to come from the de Meysi family, who held land in the area during the medieval period, while “Hampton” comes from Old English meaning a homestead or settlement.
Like many villages in the Cotswolds, Meysey Hampton developed through farming and agriculture, with sheep grazing playing an important role in the region’s historic wool trade. The surrounding countryside remains largely rural and open, giving the area a peaceful and timeless feel.
At the heart of the village stands the church of St Mary Magdalene, parts of which date back to the medieval period. Traditional stone cottages and quiet country lanes continue to define the village today.
In the early morning, Meysey Hampton feels especially calm, a place where the countryside moves slowly and the day begins gently.
