An Honest Mirror Philautia by Sleeping At Last Lyric Video

"An Honest Mirror (Philautia)" was inspired by the Greek concept of love, philautia: honest, accepting self-love. Of all the Greek definitions of love, philautia is the one I struggle with the most, so this ended up being an uncomfortably honest song about that. I’ve been lucky enough to be deeply loved by my mom, and I continue to be loved well by my wife and daughters, so I wrote this song while trying to see myself through those reflections.

When I was a teenager, my favorite way to listen to music was to put on headphones and grab the lyric booklet from the CD case (yep — I’m old) and read along as I listened. This lyric video is a little nod to that experience.
