Family privilege, obsession, and dark secrets unravel in Rosebush Pruning (2026) — a satirical tragicomedy thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Karim Aïnouz.

Set beneath the Catalonian sun, the film follows an ultra-wealthy American family living in strange isolation after moving from New York to Spain. The household includes a blind father and his adult children, whose emotionally twisted family dynamic begins to fracture when Jack brings home his girlfriend Martha, an outsider whose arrival exposes buried tensions and dangerous attachments.

Written by Efthimis Filippou, known for his absurdist style, Rosebush Pruning is loosely based on Marco Bellocchio’s 1965 film Fists in the Pocket. The film blends family drama, black comedy, psychological tension, and social satire, exploring wealth, patriarchy, trauma, and moral decay inside a privileged but deeply unstable family.
