Welcome back to Entity Evening News, I'm Kerry Dunst.
OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, at the forefront of another lawsuit.
The family of a man killed in a school shooting last year is now suing the AI company,
accusing it of helping the shooter plan the attack.
Entity's Jason Perry has more on that.
The family of a man killed in a 2025 shooting at Florida State University
filed a lawsuit on Sunday against OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT.
The lawsuit accuses ChatGPT of assisting the shooter in planning the attack,
calling the chatbot a co-conspirator in the shooting,
saying that ChatGPT helped convince him that violent acts can be required to bring about change
and provided him information on what weapons to use and how to use them.
The lawsuit continues by saying that ChatGPT provided what the shooter
viewed as encouragement in his delusion that he should carry out a massacre,
down to the detail of what time would be best to encounter the most traffic on campus.
The lawsuit also says the chatbot even discussed the number of fatalities required to get the
most attention and make national news. An attorney representing the widow
of a shooting victim saying this on Monday.
On those instances where there is an indication that the individual is headed down the wrong path
or looking to harm themselves or someone else, there needs to be safeguards put in place,
that red flags that are raised and that there's an intervention at that time.
So we're here for accountability.
This comes just weeks after Florida's attorney general said he was launching a criminal
investigation into ChatGPT's role in the shooting at Florida State University,
saying that if the chatbot was a person, it would be, quote, facing charges for murder.
A spokesperson for ChatGPT releasing a statement saying ChatGPT was not responsible for the
tragedy, adding that it, quote, did not encourage or promote illegal or harmful activity, end quote.
ChatGPT provided factual responses to questions with information that could
be found broadly across public sources on the internet. Jason Perry, NTD News.
