So many people are excited about this. PGA Championship Week is teeing off in
Delaware County. Practice rounds got underway this morning in Newtown Square.
Hundreds of thousands of fans will flood the course to see some of the top
names in golf compete. Action News reporter Elizabeth Worthington is live
at the golf course with a look at all the excitement. Gonna be a great day,
Elizabeth.
Yeah, good morning, ladies and a great week. Championship Week is officially
underway. The gates opened about two hours ago, and plenty of spectators are
already starting to trickle in. Now, this is the practice screen where some
of the biggest names in golf are gonna be getting some putts in for three days
before officially teeing off on Thursday. This week, Erotica Golf Club
and Delaware County will have a global audience. The club is hosting the
world's best golfers and nearly 200,000 spectators for the PGA Championship. We
still talk about having a PGA Championship in 1962 when most of us
weren't even born yet. So it's we're on the international stage. It's a chance
for all of us to really roll out the red carpet and welcome all these
visitors both now and throughout the whole summer. The tournament's teeing
off a big summer for the Philadelphia region, including the FIFA World Cup,
the MLB All Star Game and all of the festivities surrounding America's 250th
anniversary. I'd venture to say maybe the greatest span of sporting events
that any city has seen over a four month period. The PGA Championship
alone is expected to bring in about $125 million to the region. It's the
first time our area has hosted one of the four majors since the U. S. Open
back in 2013. The locals have supported this event, and I should say everybody
in Philadelphia supported it so well that we've sold out all of our
championship rounds. We do have limited tickets left for Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday. And again, parking is also very limited. So we definitely
recommend using public transportation either via SEPTA or either a ride
share program.
Yeah, and SEPTA is adding a few rides each day to the Paoli Thorndale line,
and then there will be a complimentary shuttle service from the Paoli station
right here to run a golf club again. The next three days are just the
practice round. There's still tickets available for that, and then the
tournament itself goes from Thursday to Sunday. We'll have to see who the big
winner is. Reigning champ Scotty Shuffler. He's back. We'll see if he
can do it again. We're live at Iran at golf club this morning. Elizabeth
Worthington, Channel six Action News. Ladies, all eyes on the door. Delaware
Valley. Thank you, Elizabeth. Dozens of veterans with physical and cognitive
challenges are teeing off this morning at Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern.
The vets are paired with PGA of America Golf Pros for the 2026 PGA Hope
Secretary's Cup. All of these veterans have participated in the PGA's Helping
Patriots Everywhere program, which seeks to enhance their physical, mental,
social and emotional well being through golf.
