Beneath the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara — Egypt's oldest pyramid, built 4,700 years ago — there are 5.7 kilometers of tunnels, shafts, galleries and chambers. Over 400 rooms across multiple levels reaching 40 meters deep. No other pyramid in Egypt has anything remotely comparable. Not Khufu's. Not Khafre's. Nobody has ever explained why a tomb needs this.
