Bird Photography at RSPB Old Moor | What I Found on a Spring Morning
oin me on a spring bird photography adventure at the beautiful RSPB Old Moor nature reserve, located just outside Rotherham in South Yorkshire. In this video on Darrell Oakden Photography, I spend a peaceful spring morning exploring the reserve’s lakes, hides and wildlife-rich wetlands, capturing a wonderful variety of birdlife along the way.
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Old Moor is one of the best wildlife photography locations in the region, offering excellent opportunities to photograph birds from well-placed hides overlooking the water. During my visit I encountered Little Grebes, Great Crested Grebes, Tufted Ducks, and Coots, many of them diving and feeding across the lakes. There were also some fantastic moments photographing birds in flight, always a rewarding challenge for wildlife photographers.
One of the highlights of the morning was catching sight of a Peregrine Falcon and two Marsh Harriers passing over the reserve — a real thrill to witness while out with the camera. With multiple hides and scenic viewpoints around the wetlands, Old Moor offers endless opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife photography, and simply enjoying nature.
Although it was a two-hour journey for me, the abundance of wildlife and the relaxing atmosphere made it more than worthwhile.
