Don't be put off by the Green Season

Summer is often seen as one of the most difficult times of year for nature photography. The woodland floor is crowded with vegetation, the colours can feel repetitive and many photographers simply wait for autumn to arrive. In this video, I take a different view.

Rather than being put off by the green season, I explore what it has to offer, looking for intimate woodland scenes, natural patterns and small details that reveal themselves. From delicate ferns glowing in backlight to simple studies of leaves and wildflowers, the challenge is not overcoming the green, but learning to work with it. The photographs in this film are all made during a short walk and are a reminder that compelling images do not always depend on dramatic conditions or spectacular locations. Sometimes they are found in the quieter moments, hidden amongst the very things many photographers choose to overlook.
