High-Stakes Black Opal - Letting My Son Cut It - Will It Pay Off?

🟣 $1,500 Opal Gamble – Did It Pay Off?
On a recent trip to Lightning Ridge, Saxon spotted a rough nobby opal priced at $1,500. While I was hesitant—concerned about surface sand and uncertain color penetration—he trusted his gut. And what followed was one of the dirtiest, most intense opal cuts we’ve done in a while.
āš’ļø The odds were stacked against us:
Sand pits everywhere
Cloudy patches threatening the face
Unclear potch and color bar depth
But as the mud flew and the color bar revealed itself, something unexpected happened... A stunning script-pattern black opal began to emerge—and with it, the chance to prove the old man wrong.
In the end, we pulled a 10.54 carat gem, valued at around $6,300, for a nearly $5,000 profit. And yes, Saxon earned that high five (even if it came with brown opal dust all over it).
Thanks for watching :)
