Matt, what's up, dude?
Hey, Jeff.
Thinking about calling in sick tomorrow.
You want to head out for a long weekend or what?
Oh, dude, good timing.
Christine and I were just talking about wanting to get out.
Man, the weather looks great.
I say yes.
Let's put something together.
Awesome.
Well, send us all your pins and let's put a route together.
Yeah, okay.
That sounds great.
But no, actually, for serious, I have a spot I've been to before.
I think you and Emily would love it.
I wanted to get Christine back there.
Let me send you a pin and see what you think.
It's out on the peninsula, but I think it'd be perfect for this weekend.
Let's pack up.
Let's go.
Let's do it, dude.
Looking forward to it.
See you soon.
Bye.
Welcome back to Where's Wiseman.
We're on a fun three-day, two-night trip on the Olympic Peninsula
with Jeff and Christine from Where to Next Overland.
It's been a minute.
Yeah, excited to be out here exploring some new roads.
And I think we've got some really fun campsites pinned.
So we'll see if we're able to get to them
or if we run into any locked gates.
I think we have plans A, B, and C just in case.
E and F, yep, pretty much.
So yeah, we're going to go check out this high steel bridge,
which looks amazing.
But yeah, let's get going.
Let's go.
This high steel bridge stands 375 feet above the South Fork River
in the deep gorge below.
Built in 1929, the bridge originally carried a rail line
whose construction made logging operations possible
in new areas of the Olympic Peninsula.
The bridge was converted to a roadway in 1964.
This is easy to access from the south,
and we highly recommend this stop.
Well, that was pretty neat.
We're going to check out maps
because we might be able to continue to take this road.
I actually thought it was closed,
like you couldn't drive over the bridge.
But we may be able to get to our next point of interest
without having to backtrack.
So we'll see.
Adventure!
Oh, hello.
All right, what's our plan?
Okay, we have possible gate number one.
We have to actually drive through a pretty dense subdivision,
which is crazy.
And that's only a quarter mile or so off the main highway.
If that's gated, we'll go a little bit further up.
It's a longer roundabout way,
but it gets us above that gate.
And there's like an epic spot we're trying to get to.
That's kind of what's going on here.
We're just trying to figure out the best way to get there.
Yeah, so we will see.
All right, cross your fingers.
No gates, everybody.
One thing we love about exploring with Jeff and Christine,
Jeff is a map nerd.
In the best kind of way, of course.
He came prepped with some points of interest
and about three to four backups for each.
As you'll see, backups are a must out here.
Yeah, it looks like it's unlocked,
but it's restricted to Lake Cashman,
Cushman Maintenance Company members or something.
Yeah, so carry on.
I'll try the next one.
One last potential northern option.
And then you said there's a lookout of the lake
or something viewpoint up here?
Yes, sir.
So we've just pulled over at Lake Cushman at a viewpoint.
Never been here before.
It's a really big lake.
Very pretty.
That's all I have to say about that.
Well, that's a beautiful lake.
We're going to have to come back.
But for now, we're going to see if we can finally get up this mountain,
find a road that is not gated.
Well, looks like gate number three, four.
Also, this is where you come to dump all your garbage and appliances.
Yeah, well, case closed on this epic campsite.
It's not going to happen.
And they really don't want you coming down this one,
which is sad.
This is about probably a half mile of private land
that gets you to Washington state land.
Tons of it, too.
Since we struck out on all the roads leading to the mountaintop campsite
we had wanted to get to,
we set out on the nearby forest roads to do some exploring
and find another place to camp for the night.
There's just so many potholes.
You can't even avoid them, huh?
Yeah.
Just got to go very slow.
Just when you think you can speed up.
Oh wow, that is cool.
Oh yeah, looks like it's solid from there.
All right, quick scout on foot.
Looks like we're good to go.
Just got a tree hanging into the road a bit.
Tight little trail.
Some mud holes.
Be a pain to turn around back here.
Yeah, we'll see what's next.
Good thing we washed the trailer yesterday, huh?
Right.
This area had more campers than we had anticipated
so we ended up doing a little backtracking
to a spot along a river we'd seen earlier in the day.
You're clear.
You're good.
You know, I might be able to leave it connected.
I didn't, I didn't think it was that off.
Or like full tire spin on this one.
Cheers, my friend.
Oh yeah, yeah.
Don't worry, I got all that on film.
That didn't work.
Why'd you give me the hard one?
First try.
Bourbon barrel firewood.
Hi.
None of that.
You said act natural.
Did you get the zoom on?
All right, he's ready to party.
Oh goodness.
Oh yeah, there it is.
This is our Botticello Labrusco.
Directly from Italy.
You already have the sir.
You have to let me, you have to let me taste it to see if I'm gonna like it.
Oh yeah, that's great.
Ah, mama mia.
Oh man.
Well, have something a little different tonight.
We're trying for the first time camping.
Pigs in a blanket.
We're pretty excited to try this under the pop-up fire pit.
As you know, or may not know, we've cooked a variety of things under this pit.
We love it.
Anyway, I'm gonna put my hot glove on here.
Grab our preheated plate.
All right, let's get our official reading here.
Oh, 260, 70.
Yeah, that pastry's hot.
It's working.
Yeah.
Should we do another like quarter turn?
Or give it a little bit longer?
Yeah, I should do a turn for sure.
I mean, those don't look bad.
No, they look great.
I don't know if I needed two, but whatever.
Well, bombs away.
Mmm.
After dinner, we had a relaxing evening swapping stories around the campfire.
We woke up to an absolutely perfect day and could not wait to get out and explore some new areas.
We got packed up, put a plan together, and we're on our way.
Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss part two of this great adventure with Jeff and Christine.
We end up at one of the most amazing campsites to date, and you won't want to miss it.
Thanks for watching.
We'll see you on the next.
You graduate?
I do.
And we're just standing here waiting.
Ad-lib.
I don't want to.
There's the BTS for you.
