The trip involves setting up camp by a mountain lake, testing backpacking meals, and reflecting on the importance of facing the unknown. The experience concludes with a serene morning and a brief update on an ongoing van build project.
Oh, I did not prepare myself for baby lambs.
Oh my God.
They're so cute.
Look at him.
Go for today.
First solo wild camp.
It's happening.
I made it.
Look at this.
All right, first things first.
I'm gonna find a place to set up my tent
and I'm gonna do that pretty much straight away.
I think I found the spot.
I actually think this is the spot myself and Barrett camped
the first time I ever went wild camping,
which is very fitting
because today I'm doing it solo for the first time.
Snacking on some dates and cashews first.
Can't do anything hungry.
All right, tent is set up.
I have views in all directions.
Lake here, mountains here,
and just landscape there.
Beautiful.
I'm just making my way down towards the lake
because I wanna fill up my water.
I'm gonna fill up a couple of bottles
so that I don't have to be going up and down a lot,
especially in the dark.
It's a little bit rocky.
I'm using the grail water filter.
Obviously this is mountain lake.
So the water is probably pretty good.
It's just that there's a lot of farmland around here.
So there's a lot of sheep,
which means the water is probably not the safest
to drink without filtering.
But that's why we brought this.
Really, really good.
All right, it's about 20 to eight
and I am a little bit hungry.
I'm getting a little bit chilly.
The breeze started to pick up a little bit,
but I don't think it's gonna be any more
than what it is right now, which is barely anything.
So yeah, I'm gonna boil up some water
and I'm gonna try out some backpacking meals.
Myself and Barrett are gonna test a few out
over the next few months before our trip,
just to see which ones actually taste half decent,
even though they are quite expensive.
I know there's always an option
of making your own dehydrated meals,
but then you have to buy a dehydrator.
You have to do the recipes, all that kind of stuff,
which doesn't seem worth it
if we're only going on one trip, but we'll see.
I'll have a taste of this first and see how it goes.
That's too much.
Okay, let's give this a go.
Okay, smells good.
I'll fill it to six.
I don't know what that means.
Oops.
Okay, I was meant to fill it up to level two
and I filled it to level six.
This might be a soup, but I'll leave it there.
I've been putting off this camping trip
for the longest time.
And honestly, it's because I think I'm scared
to be here camping in the middle of nowhere all by myself.
I think when you overthink it too much
and think about all the worst case scenarios
and all the things that can go wrong,
of course that's gonna put you off it.
But I've actually been reading a lot lately
about the fact that you are in control of your emotions
and how you react to situations.
And I think that honestly helps me flip the mindset.
And now I'm here and I actually don't have any fear
now that I'm here doing it.
It was all those thoughts and emotions
that I had built up in anticipation of doing it.
And now that I'm here, it feels so peaceful.
I'm really, really, really glad that I've decided to do it.
But it just goes to show that we do put off a lot of things
and not do things that we want to do because of fear
and the fear of the unknown and what might happen
and always going to that worst case scenario.
And maybe every now and then it's good
to just feel the fear and do it anyway.
So I'm here.
It's the moment of truth.
I think I made soup.
Yeah, it's definitely soup, but it seems cooked.
Oh, super hot.
Okay, I'm gonna let this cool down.
That was honestly really, really, really good.
Even though I made a soup out of it.
That's from Decathlon.
It is Bolognese-style pasta.
Really good, worth a try.
Just boiling up some more water now
so that I can put it in my Nalgene bottle
and put it inside my sleeping bag.
I actually don't think it's gonna be cold enough
to warrant a hot water bottle,
but I prefer to be too hot than too cold
because I've been there where it's way too cold
and I just can't sleep at night.
So at least I can just get out with a sleeping bag
if it gets too hot.
The water is so, so, so still.
It's so pretty.
I'm listening to a podcast now.
I'm getting a little bit sleepy,
so I think I'm gonna call it a night.
See you tomorrow.
It's just before 6 a.m.
Oh, it's just before 6 a.m.
It's just incredible outside.
The birds have been going
since about four o'clock this morning,
which I'm not complaining about.
I was awake anyway.
I didn't get too good of a sleep.
I think it was just the fact that it was all one big
adventure and my mind was fairly active.
So yeah, I found it difficult to get to sleep.
The one thing I did notice was that
I was not one bit afraid during the night.
It was just so, so, so peaceful.
And even though I wasn't sleeping too much,
I was just able to lie there and enjoy the silence,
apart from the odd sheep making noises
or whenever the skylark came out and started singing,
which was more often than you think.
But yeah, I don't know what I was afraid of.
Incredible.
Just boiling some water now
to make a cup of tea for breakfast.
I cannot get over how still the water is in the lake.
You can see the exact reflection of the cliffs.
It's incredible.
It's like a sheet of ice.
Now onto my least favorite part of camping,
which is packing away everything.
Metal is so cold.
Okay, so the tent is done.
Now I just need to put all of this stuff away,
back into the bag.
Hopefully I can fit it all.
I'm all packed up and ready to go now.
I would stay longer, but I do have work to go to today.
So unfortunately I have to get going.
I'm so glad I did that.
That was amazing.
If anyone's wondering about the van build,
that is happening behind the scenes.
We have been doing bits and pieces at the weekends
whenever we can.
And the next video is going to go into more detail on that
and show you our progress so far.
We're at a bit of a standstill at the moment
because we kind of had to finalize the design that we wanted
before we continued with any building.
Obviously there's a lot of planning that is involved in it.
But yeah, stay tuned for updates on that.
And if you do like videos like this
and any other videos that I have on my channel,
don't forget to like and subscribe.
It really does help the channel grow,
which would be amazing.
So yeah, thanks a million for watching again.
I'll see you in the next one.
Bit of early morning traffic on the trails this morning.
The kids are being dropped to school.
