Political commentator Jack Cocchiarella reacts to shocking scandals from the GOP
The Republican caucus in the House is full of sick freaks who harass their staffers and
out-of-control criminals who make our lives worse. But Mike Johnson doesn't care. Why?
Because he wants to preserve his majority. Or I guess I should say he hasn't cared
because he wants to preserve his majority, but now he really has to care because another
sex scandal is popping up and it is threatening to take out Mike Johnson. We are going to get in
to the depravity of this Congress. And there is so much more I want to say about what these
upcoming midterms need to look like, not just in general elections, but in primaries, which are
maybe even more important than what happens in November. But I first want to start with
why Mike Johnson is so panicked by this new sex scandal, new reporting from Axios, and so much
more. It's because of how unpopular Donald Trump is. They're really not great at this. Politically,
they're not great at this either, it turns out. In an environment where the Republican
Party is embodied essentially entirely by their leader, where nobody else has allowed the oxygen
to thrive or speak. The latest Washington Post-ABC News Ipsos poll has Trump negative 25
overall. He's 25 points underwater on his overall approval rating. And that's kind of a high point
for him in this poll. Minus 25 is kind of as good as it gets. On the economy, his approval rating is
31 points underwater. On the Iran war, his approval rating is 33 points underwater. On inflation,
Trump's approval rating is 45 points underwater. On Trump's handling of the cost of living,
which is effectively what he ran on to get a second term in the White House,
Trump is 53 points underwater. 76% of the country disapproves of Trump's handling of the cost of
living. He's minus 53. As, among other things, his war of whim, his war of impulse, this war of
choice that he doesn't even seem to understand, drags on with no end in sight. And the energy
crisis he caused by starting this inexplicable war just gets worse and worse, with gas prices
continuing their steady, steep rise. They are really, really not great at this. They're not
good at this. This is a historic level of collapse from Donald Trump. He is historically unpopular
across the board, but most importantly, with Republicans, Republicans who want to see change
in the Republican Party, Republicans who support when a Tony Gonzalez gets booted from Congress,
when someone like a Cory Mills is being threatened to be removed by Nancy Mason.
Of course, there is another Republican who Mike Johnson now has to deal with,
and his ethics violations, his violations of the House rules. We're going to get into that,
but we know how far this Republican Party has gone to deny even what its own supporters want,
like in the form of the Epstein files. Mike Johnson will do literally whatever it takes.
Marjorie Taylor Greene said that right here, and it is very important to note
for this new scandal that's breaking out. We spent eight weeks shut down. Remember that?
We spent eight weeks shut down. By the way, that was to stop the Epstein resolution from
getting a House vote. That's what that shutdown was about. Finally, they reopened the government
and a brand new Democrat member of Congress was sworn in, and we got the 218th signature,
released the resolution, passed it overwhelmingly, which was hilarious to me,
watching all these Republicans, oh yeah, all of a sudden I'm voting to release the Epstein files.
What a pathetic joke. Weak men, oh my gosh, they're so weak.
Marjorie is confirming what we knew all along. The shutdown was about hiding the Epstein files.
Mike Johnson will literally do whatever it takes to cover up for sex criminals, for pedos,
for Donald Trump's friends. He'll do whatever it takes because that is the way that he
stays speaker, by giving over his tiny little balls to Donald Trump and saying,
thank you, dear leader. Thank you. I'll just let you rest them on the desk over there.
Mike Johnson just wants to be the Speaker of the House, even though he doesn't really have
any effective power anymore because there's not enough Republicans showing up on a day-to-day
basis to get anything passed. It's just a disaster. What Mike Johnson is really worried about
is Cory Mills and another Republican who is having more reporting come out against his
crimes, his disgusting behavior, his affair, his harassment of staffers,
that should mean his resignation from Congress, really his expulsion, and it is driving Mike
crazy because it might be the end of his majority. If not now, it's certainly going to happen in
November. Scoop. Rep Chuck Edwards singled out young female aides for special attention.
Rep Chuck Edwards, a Republican of North Carolina, told a young female staffer that she had
written a complex chapter in his heart shortly before she was set to leave his office,
according to a handwritten letter he sent her that was reviewed by Axios.
Why it matters. Edwards, as we've reported, is now the subject of a House Ethics Committee probe
that Axios first reported. That probe was prompted in part by Edwards' conduct toward
two female staffers, a source familiar with the matter told Axios. Three sources told Axios they
witnessed conduct by Edwards towards two female staffers in their 20s that they described as
inappropriate. The sources said Edwards' behavior crossed professional boundaries
and created an uncomfortable work environment. The sources were granted anonymity to protect
against retaliation. One of the staffers, whom Axios will not name due to the sensitive nature
of these allegations, declined to discuss the interactions with Edwards when contacted by the
The three sources told Axios that the staffer expressed discomfort to those around her with
Edwards' behavior several times during and after the time she worked with him.
Edwards and the woman spent time vacationing together in Las Vegas
months after she had left his office, according to two sources familiar with the trip.
Axios reviewed receipts showing Edwards had booked two rooms at the Bellagio Hotel
from November 8th to November 11th in 2025, as well as massages indicating that the woman was
also in Las Vegas on at least one of those dates. At the time, staff in Edwards' office were
concerned about the congressman returning to Washington to vote on reopening the government
amid shutdown-related airport delays, per the two sources. Edwards expressed deep personal
affection for the staffer in a three-page handwritten note that sources said the congressman
gave to the staffer shortly before she left his office.
You were the most amazing woman. I only wish I could explain the joy and meaning to me
for the time we spent together at the office. But especially away from it, the letter read,
your kindness, encouragement, and lightheartedness have written a complex,
a complex chapter in my heart that I will never stop reading.
The letter was signed with my lifetime of appreciation and devotion,
Chuck. Edwards, 65, has been married since 1980. Edwards also bought the staffer personal gifts
while she was employed by him, including jewelry, according to three sources with
direct knowledge of the gift. The big picture here is that Edwards' office has one of the
highest turnover rates in Congress, with 59% turnover in 2025, more than double the house
average of 27%. Edwards' decision to promote the second female staffer to a senior position
just a year and a half into her junior staff role, and less than two years after graduating college,
contributed to internal tensions in the office, according to Axios. The second female staffer
was chosen over a more experienced colleague who left the office shortly after the promotion,
the sources said. Zooming out, Edwards, who is currently serving his second term in Congress,
is a top Democratic target in November, meaning Democrats are looking to flip his seat.
The ethics probe could hamper Edwards' reelection prospects, even though such investigations
typically take months, if not years, to complete. Now, the original reporting that we read about
Chuck Edwards detailed the harassment of multiple women in his office, how he made them uncomfortable.
Now, I am still waiting on more reporting that might allege criminal conduct, and so at this
I'm not coming out and saying it's time for a trial. We don't know enough yet. But what I think
is so important is that we shouldn't have to get to that point. We shouldn't have to get to that
point, and I'm not even talking about allegations of harassment. I'm just talking about allegations
of inappropriate and weird behavior. You are not allowed to have relationships and affairs
with your staff in your office who you take to Vegas to stay at fancy hotels and get couples
massages when you are a member of Congress. You're not allowed to do that. It doesn't matter
if you're married or you're single. It's weird, it's gross, and it is not how you should be
spending your time and our money if you are elected to Congress. I feel like we have conflated
criminality with all of these actions being taken by members of Congress, and most of them
have been criminal. Let's be real about this. But you don't have to have committed a crime
for you to not be a viable member of Congress. I'm not even talking about,
oh, if something's alleged against you, then shut it down, it's over. In instances when the
allegations were as they were against Eric Swalwell, deeply corroborated by doctors, family,
friends, medical accounts, so much, yes, obviously that is enough. But I'm not saying you have to
criminal allegations against you is the point that I'm trying to make for you not to be reasonable
that you're in Congress. If you are having multiple affairs with your staff and you're
making your entire office uncomfortable with those affairs, you just shouldn't be in Congress.
And he's a married man. It's weird. You shouldn't be in Congress. It is a violation of the House
bylaws to be having an affair with your staffer. That is not a person who should be in Congress,
but Mike Johnson doesn't give a ---- if it keeps him Speaker. But, Mike, you're not going to be for
much longer. And hey, Nancy Mace, Ana Paulina Luna, Lauren Boebert, you guys said that you
wanted to rid creeps like this out of office. Go for it. Get on it. This guy's got to go.
And we also have to be focusing not just on the general, but primaries as well. And one Democrat
who y'all know I love just essentially won his because Janet Mills dropped out. That is Graham
Plattner. And Democrats should be listening to his message because it's breaking through.
Nobody works hard enough to justify a billion dollars, not in a world where I know people
that have three jobs and can't even afford their rent. I refuse to believe. I refuse to believe
that in a state like Maine, where people work as hard as we do here, that it is merely hard work
that gets you that kind of success. We all know it isn't. We all know it's the structures,
it's the tax code. That is what allows that money to get accrued. And that is also why
we can get it back. Because the world that we live in today, the world that we live in today
is not organic. It is not natural. The political and economic world we have did not happen because
it had to. It happened because politicians in Washington and the billionaires that write the
policies that they pushed, they made this happen. This is how Democrats should sound. This is the
way that we should talk about the hoarding of wealth in this country. So many want to frame
it as attacking success, but it is not success. It is rigging a system in your favor to hurt
working people. It is cheating and it is unfair. And don't we want a fair system? Don't we want
a fair shake? Isn't that what we should aspire to? So that there is real competition? Yes. And
that is the message that Graham Platner delivers so well. He delivers a lot of messages so well,
which is why if you want to support him in his campaign to defeat Susan Collins and flip such
an important seat, you can donate down below. We're going to be talking about him every day.
Hoping to have Graham back on the show soon. And if you want to support our show, as always,
you can hit that subscribe button, leave a like on this video. If you stuck around at the end,
drop a blue heart in the comments. Keep on fighting, y'all. Don't let them silence you.
And until next time, I'll see you soon.
