Thanks to the staff of the Kurilsky Nature Reserve for organizing the photo shoot, and especially to Alexander Kisleyko.
It is sedentary on Kunashir, although in winter some birds leave the Southern Kuril Islands and migrate to Hokkaido. On Kunashir, it inhabits fast-flowing mountain rivers: Tyatina, Saratovskaya, Perevalny, Ptichya, Filatova, Ilyushina, and Andreyevka streams. It nests on Peschanoye Lake.

На Кунашире ведет оседлый образ жизни, хотя в зимний период часть птиц покидает Южные Курильские острова и откочевывает на Хоккайдо. На Кунашире населяет горные реки с быстрым течением: Тятина, Саратовская, руч. Перевальный, Птичья, Филатова, Илюшина, Андреевка. Гнездится на оз. Песчаном.
