Captivated by the dreamy beauty of the "fairy tale" village of Giethoorn, Netherlands

Deserving of its reputation as one of the most beautiful villages in the world, Giethoorn in the Netherlands appears like a fairytale world in real life, with its own unique, tranquil, and ancient charm. For over 700 years, this place has been free from the noise of car horns and exhaust fumes.

Known as the "Venice of the Netherlands," the ancient village of Giethoorn is located about 120km northeast of Amsterdam. It is a town in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. The village was discovered in the 1230s AD by a group of Mediterranean migrants. Upon their first arrival, the migrants were surprised to find many goat horns (giethoorn in Dutch). This was the result of a major flood, and the area has been named Giethoorn ever since. Visitors to the village will feel the ancient charm as they pass by the Dutch-style thatched-roof houses and farmhouses dating back to the 18th century. However, this fairytale town only truly became famous after its first appearance in the 1958 film "Fanfare" by Dutch filmmaker Bert Haanstra.
