If I had 30 days to change my life,
you know there's all those kind of books and videos about change your life in 30 days,
what would I actually do?
What I would do is I'd write down everything I believe
and I would question it systematically for 30 days
and I think there's no way feasibly
that you would be the same person at the end of that period.
The mind itself is so resistant to questioning beliefs.
We have all sorts of defenses in place that prevent us from doing so.
Our egos have many beliefs,
some much more foundational than others but then it also has a whole host of defenses
around not questioning them, keeping them in place.
So that's one protocol.
Instead of maybe going to the gym for 30 days or
doing whatever else, self-improvement things that people suggest.
Not wrong doing that of course but I would say
the biggest transformational way would be to have some sort of
practice for 30 days where you're going to sit down and say okay, what do I believe?
What are my beliefs? And I'm going to start questioning them.
That's a real rabbit hole. We go down all these rabbit holes online
about various topics or conspiracies and whatnot
but that would be a real interesting experiment that you could run
in your own life. What will come of it
ultimately is a much more loving
state of mind. My
feeling is that the truth,
we arrive at the truth through questioning and we can't get to the truth until we question what's false.
A lot of the things we have, a lot of our egoic
beliefs typically based on
the idea of being not good enough and being vulnerable
and weak and powerless and
guilty. A lot of those thoughts
we can't get to the truth of who we are until those thoughts have been questioned
deeply examined and let go really. You let go
of those thoughts the same way you let go of
things you used to believe in when you were a child. You found evidence
to the contrary and it's through questioning a lot of these
beliefs that we will come to the very
very surprising but happy realization
that the world is not this scary dark
place maybe that we thought it was or we're not this
struggling powerless character within it who is
at the effect of the world and the world is acting upon me and I have little
to no power to do anything about it. That's the
experience that many of us find ourselves in. So it's questioning that.
Now the interesting thing is to really radically
change your life in 30 days of you know doing that sitting down
questioning writing out your beliefs on paper asking is this true
etc. You don't have to leave your
house to do that. You can do it in the chair or the bed
you're lying on right now wherever you're watching this from. You could start that
process right now but isn't it interesting that so
few of us would do that or you might
you might watch this video and think that's an interesting idea and then not
do it. We don't have to leave the house to do it. You could start immediately
in doing that. But why wouldn't we? Again
it's those defenses around it. Our ego and
even like a belief or a thought within the ego you could think of it as
it has an agenda in a sense
all of our beliefs have an agenda and really the agenda they have is to
be believed. When we stop believing them
it's as if they die they go away they disappear. Now the thoughts themselves don't really
die or disappear you can't really kill a thought. But when you take the belief out
of it when you take your attachment to it away
it becomes completely powerless. So they have an agenda they want to be believed
they want to and to be believed they will generate evidence
in our lives. So we look out into the world to find evidence
to confirm what it is the belief is saying is the case.
So if you do decide to try this
for 30 days go easy with yourself because there will be resistance
that comes up to it. Because that's the defenses they don't want to be questioned.
But if I had to do it if I had to change my life
dramatically in 30 days that's the protocol I would
use. And it could be a process of just writing out what it is
I believe what it is I believe about myself what it is I believe about my
career my my future maybe my relationships my
friendships my health you name it. And get
to work questioning them systematically.
And I think there's little to no chance that your life wouldn't be
dramatically different as a result of that. It might be useful
to help to get someone to help you with it. You know that's especially when
you're doing the beliefs about who it is you are.
It's a little easier to do them about external situations that you're facing in your life. But when you're doing
questioning about who it is you are you believe yourself to be that's
particularly challenging. So having somebody else wait to do that can be useful.
But nonetheless it is possible to do it by yourself. And I would highly recommend
that if that's what you're looking for a strategy to see you know how
how much change can I enact in my life within a month's time 30 days.
So keep it in mind and maybe revisit that one if you're
looking for one of those personal challenges. And if you do it please come back to the
video and leave a comment below and let me and everyone else in the
comments know if it worked or if it was transformational or even about that resistance
that defensive defense mechanisms that came up when you're trying it.
Thanks for watching. I'll see you again very soon. Mind yourself.
Bye bye.
