Earth’s Largest Animal Returns to San Diego… First Blue Whales of 2026!
The first blue whales of 2026 have officially arrived in San Diego with Gone Whale Watching!
After weeks of encounters with dozens of fin whales, we finally began seeing blue whales show up consistently over the past few days. On this trip, we spent time with multiple blue whales actively feeding on krill, mixed in with fin whales and humpbacks throughout the area.
This marks the start of what is typically one of the best times of year on the water here. When these animals settle in, it can turn into some of the most dynamic whale watching anywhere in the world.
This video is a short highlight from that morning, filmed entirely from the air as these giants moved, surfaced, and fed just below us.
If you’re curious what conditions are like right now, this stretch has been some of the most consistent whale activity we’ve seen in a while, with multiple species showing up on nearly every single trip!
Let's go whale watching!
