Spring has finally hit and I know for most people that usually means getting into knitting cardigans and lighter sweaters
Maybe some sweater vests, but for me, I'm already preparing for the summertime because spring is no joke here
It's either like 30 degrees below zero
Snowing raining or it's the other end of the spectrum where it's like 80 degrees
It's really hot beautiful and sunny and I am sick of the snow and the rain the thunderstorms and the potential tornadoes
I kid you not last week. I think we had like three or four tornado warnings here in Wisconsin. And so I am over it
I am over it. I'm ready just for the summer for the 80 degrees
So here are all my cool girl patterns that I have found for this summer season
So not only are these some ideas for you guys in your summer patterns or spring if you're like me and you live in Wisconsin
But it's also just for me to plan out some summer and spring it knits
I think I really exhausted like knitting sweaters recently me and a sleeve don't get along anymore
especially something that I can turn out in a week is like
my cup of tea right now and this will kind of be a mix of both things that I've already made and things that I'm
Excited to make this season specifically or things for my friends
I do have some things on my list or like patterns that I picked out for some of my girls
So I have all the notes in my notebook here. So if you see me looking down, that's why also
I'll be referencing them on my phone as well. Okay, but first obviously I have to talk about what I'm wearing
This is the Tomo top by main knits. This is my most recent fo
This is using DK weight yarn in either 3 to 3.25 millimeters
I think I are used a 3.5 for this project because my cotton was a little bit
Lighter weight now. I have a really bad memory of
Yarns, I feel like I can never remember which yarn I used for what project. I believe it was a barocco yarn
I'm trying to search it up right now. I know it's a hundred percent cotton
Because when I had originally bought this yarn last year, I envisioned making almost like a peplum top
Obviously that did not come to fruition. So I decided to frog that project and then reuse it for this halter top
This wasn't my most favorite yarn to work with
I think it's a bit just like a slightly bit rougher than some other cottons that I've worked with
Do you have to say I love this color?
This is like my signature color this and I feel like yellow as well and surprisingly, although I say this is my signature color
I actually don't have too many things in my closet that are teal
So I'm happy that I have something for the summertime at least to wear
I also just really love this halter top because I think it's a great just base for anything
Like if you want to make a simple one kind of like the one that I made one in like white or black that would go
in anyone's closet or you could do like a funky like 70s like striped one or I feel like the
2000s type style is coming back. So I'm making like a pink halter neck would be so cute and I just want to say
Chef's kiss to this pattern because this is worked up from the straps first and I
hate
And I will tell you again. I hate
Working with I cord edging or like any I cord, you know, it's just not
Fun for me because you just have to sit there for a long time
and I know like for most straps or anything like similar that you're making it's gonna take a long time to make this has to
be really long but
No, I cord is just like the bane of my existence. But for this strap, it actually doesn't use any I cord
it's just one by one ribbing and I
Just way better way better than any I cord not only does it make more sense
I feel like with a halter, you know, you want something that's a bit more sturdy has a bit more support
So something that's a little thicker
but also I didn't want to rip my eyes out at the beginning of this project because that's where you start you start on the
Straps you work the left side first then the right side of then you attach it and then you make the body
So it's a fairly simple pattern, but it's really great for beginners. Okay, maybe more like
Intermediate beginner maybe because you have to like connect everything
But I will have to say this is a great top for people that can't finish projects
This is why I love summer tops. You don't have to make any sleeves and I think that's the part that
People just like don't want to knit anymore. Okay. This next one is a newer one to me this released actually earlier this year in
January, but it is the Carrie sweater by oh god. I'm going to butcher her name. I'm so sorry
Colibri
By Johanna or Johanna. This is such a gorgeous very like modern looking top
I love the twist in the middle of the sweater in her photos here
She's shown wearing with the twists in the front and the back so it's very versatile
But I love how it's kind of like a little sexy like she's wearing
I think some type of like lace bra or like a bralette underneath so it's kind of peeking out in the front
I think that's so cute and this is made with negative ease
so it's quite tight to the body really hugging all those curves and I think this is such a cute kind of like
Going out top or if it's a bit chillier for me at least in the springtime
This is like perfect
This sweater can also be made into more of like a slip over or tank too if you want to make it without the sleeves
So she has a version of that on Ravelry as well
You can see like the sample of it in this beautiful like hot pink color
I really like is that she has a like one hour tutorial on how to make this top
Obviously like you'll still need the pattern for it
But if you're someone who's more of like a visual learner
this is a great pattern to have because she really goes step-by-step in detail of
What her pattern says and shows you the different techniques that she uses
I think the color that she chose and her sample too is what gravitated me towards this one
I have a lot of items like this in my closet that are kind of like that greenish yellow color
It's such a fun pop of color to have in your closet
So this one like when I was scrolling through Ravelry really like stuck out to me
This one also uses DK weight yarn and uses four millimeter needles
So not like super crazy small now in the name of her pattern
She does call this a sweater, but I would almost think of it more like just a long sleeve top
She uses cashmere. But again, I think if you want to make this for the summertime
It's a little bit colder where you at. You could definitely make this in a cotton as well
It won't be as like luxurious as the cashmere that she's using but then it'll definitely be suitable for the summertime
I do notice that there's some I cord bind off in this or some, you know edging
But I do have to say it looks really lovely. I think
The I cord was a great idea. I think ribbing would have made this look
Too thick like around those areas. Okay. Next is another top that I've made
It is the June top by November Studios. Now. The one I have here is in this fun bright funky color
Again, it has kind of like speckles of that
orangey
Greenish yellow color. It's super super cute
I do have to say I made mine a little bit wider than the
Pattern calls for and that's because I wanted mine to be a bit more of a cowl neck if you look at these sample photos
It is more of like an off-the-shoulder top like a boat neck
But I wanted it to like drape a little bit more in the front
So mine almost comes off as more as like a cowl neck
So there's different ways to like modify this pattern to make it the way that you want in her sample
She's wearing it with this really cute long a-line skirt
But for me, I love wearing mine with like super baggy jean. I kind of like having it as a going out top
I think it's super fun for that, especially for how bright it is
So this pattern calls for two point seven five millimeter and three point seven five millimeter needles
And with that also knitting it up with fingering weight yarn yarn
I actually bought when I was in Minneapolis
During the Conan gray concert
You can check out my Conan gray concert video if you're interested to see what that yarn store looks like
I show a little bit a snippet of it in that video. I just like barely had enough yarn
So if you notice in the back here, it is a different gray color
But because this is in the back, no one can really see it and this kind of all rolls up anyways
So for me, it really didn't matter. So for me, I'm typically like a size extra small or small
I would definitely suggest getting at least a hundred fifty grams of whatever yarn you needed and I had used this sock yarn
So it's very like elastic like there's there's nylon in it gives it a little bit of stretch
Which is really nice for the ribbing down here. I love some of the other sample colors as well
There's like this beautiful. I think it's like a grayish brown color
Very cool toned. I don't really like wearing grayish colors very much, but that one is super cute
There's also this beautiful almost like muted red color
I think this one's really nice because you can see what it looks like if you don't want to do a very
intense off the shoulder top
You can still make it and it just have more of like a bow neck
Like I said before and in this photo she also paired it with jeans and I think with the deeper blue jeans
It just looks so good those those primary colors together. The next pattern I have here is the petal line top by Anna
Lorena Riedel I think is how you say her name
Again, forgive me. I am like the worst person at pronouncing names. So forgive me if it's butchered
I've seen a lot of these kind of I don't know you call it like not razorback, but these high neck tank top
I think not only are these super popular in the knitting community for the summertime
But I feel like I see a lot of girls kind of wear these more simple tops in the summer, too
I think it's just super fitting
And very breathable I feel you can dress it up in a lot of ways too and it works across a lot of different styles
so if you have more of like a street tomboy or style one in black like looks so good or
Kind of like the one that we have here in blue like super girly super pretty
I love this and I think the detail that really stuck out to me was the scalloping
Around the arm and neck hole
I think that's the part that like really drew me in because when I first looked at this pattern I
Wasn't sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me
And that's how the pattern actually looked or if there really were scallops and you know
I took a closer look I noticed that there really are scallops in the collar and arm holes
I would love making a cropped version of this to the one that she has in the sample is a little bit longer
Like it's like full torso length, but I love my itty bitty tops
so making this in a
Crop top version would be super cute
I it's kind of hard to tell from the pattern whether there's shaping for the waist
But I think if I were to make this pattern and it didn't already have that I would definitely add some decreases every like 5 to 10
Rows to add some shaping there, but man this blue is just super gorgeous the needle size here ranges from
Two millimeters all the way up to four millimeters
I'm assuming that's for the different scalloping the different edging the actual top itself
Just to make sure everything is super even and neat and I think the name of this pattern is just so perfect for it
Like even in the description itself
It says that the little edges are almost like flower petals and I that's absolutely true
That's it's definitely invoking that type of imagery
Now the next pattern here is one that probably a lot of you guys have already seen but I still want to mention it because
It's personally getting added to my list and it's the heartless top by Midsommar knits
Now the reason I'm adding this to my list is because a couple years ago
I had actually made this pattern when it was originally released and I really really loved the pattern
But I just think I made it in one the wrong yarn used a Malabrigo's yarn and it was just a little bit
too thin
I think this calls for a DK weight yarn and to be honest that yarn that I used was more of a
fingering weight yarn
So that was one issue that I had and the second issue that I also faced was buying the wrong
Wire gauge I had bought a wire that was way too thick and it made it really hard to
Kind of bend the metal into the heart shape. That is
Like the main focal point of this top to the point where like the metal was basically sticking out of the top
So I want to try remaking it again this year
We'll see if I have time to get around to it, but I'll buy
Different type of yarn this time, especially I think this time around I will buy a cotton yarn
So I can wear it all summer long and not have to worry about getting too hot and stuffy in it and obviously buying a smaller
gauge wire
She actually mentions in the pattern what gauge she used but I
Didn't read the whole pattern before buying the wire and that is on me. Make sure you do that
Don't follow my mistakes. So my hope is that I'll get to come back to this top again this summer
okay, this top has actually been saved in my Ravelry for a couple years now and I
Feel like I just need to
Finally make this it is the
Corsolette tank by Jasmine Britain. She uses a DK weight yarn and 3.75 millimeter needles
This is such a beautifully constructed
Corset type top there's not any actual boning in it
But like real stays have it has that very like pointed
Corset look I know it's probably not historically accurate to even call it a corset
But I think it's more of the image that invokes again. This has negative ease to it. So it's really cinching
I love that in a cute little tank top. These samples here are in such fun colors, too
She uses almost like a lilac color, but there are some other
Ones here where it's like in fuchsia in a maroon
There's even like I think this is mohair or like brushed out mohair where it's super fluffy
I think that is such a fun look and I actually haven't done anything like that before
Using like brushed out mohair making it like super big and fluffy
I think that would be such a fun and different texture to play with in my closet
I feel like the knitting patterns that I tend to like have
Maybe like interesting construction or they're really good basic. That's why I tend to gravitate towards them
I usually don't gravitate towards things that have really crazy lace work or cable work
But that's a little bit different for this pattern
So this next one if you like those two things, I feel like you're gonna like this for the summer
It is the hush chemise. This was actually published in needles and artifice
I think it's a knitting pattern book, but it's also available on Ravelry. It's this beautiful
super delicate off the shoulder top that has some beautiful lace work around your
Decolletage area and clearly you can see just like how fine the yarn is
Of course, it uses like a lace weight yarn and asks for a 3.25 millimeter or 3.5 millimeter needle
I think in the sample pictures the very like buttery yellow is just so gorgeous and really fits in with
Clearly like the historical vibe that she's going for. This is a little bit of an older pattern
This is made in 2012
but I wanted to talk about it for you know, people that might be interested in this type of
Construction. I went to a high tea ceremony for my birthday and they do it seasonally like they change out all the decorations
the different teas that they have at the mansion where they host these tea parties and
I feel like making this top and like going to a little tea party would be so cute
Okay
And finally last but not least I have this pattern that my friend who recently got into knitting and crocheting
Sent me I believe she probably found this on Pinterest
So I'm adding it to the list because I would love to do almost like a knit along with her
That would be so cute and then to have like our own versions of this top in two different colors
but enough said it is the Brooklyn backless top and obviously the feature of the top here is
The back it uses two almost like keyhole rings
to connect the top neck area and the bottom back area and the rest of your back is just
open and exposed
now tops like this are the reason why I remember to exfoliate the hell out of my back because
If it's exposed like that, I know that people do not want to see in my back
knee
this pattern is by made by Roche and you can see just like how much effort she put into this pattern because
Unlike some of the other patterns that I've shared. This is actually made to measure
I feel like you don't see that too often with knitting patterns
Most of the time you'll have your knitting like graded in different sizes
So it's really cool that this one is made to measure
It's in a top-down which is something that I prefer. I I don't know. That's just me
I don't love knitting bottom up all the time
I feel like it's harder to try on and because it's made to measure you can use any weight yarn that you'd like
I think I really like it seems like she uses like a DK or worsted weight yarn in this picture
And I really liked the weight of the yarn. I think a chunkier yarn you kind of lose like the slimming
fit like the negative ease of
This top there is even a sample of this pattern made in a t-shirt
Style and I really liked that one, too
This one was actually made seemingly with a heavier weighted yarn and even then it still turned out absolutely beautiful
I love the color that they chose for this. So I like how this pattern is like very very customizable
And of course, I do notice that the collar and the end of the top have I cord bind off
so that's the only thing that's like
Pushing me away from this knit, but if my friend is really interested in making it, I'll probably make it along with her
So those are all the knitting patterns I have to share
But I wanted to share just one sewing project if you guys didn't know earlier this year
I bought a sewing machine and while yes, I did grow up with a sewing machine
I actually didn't use it that often
My mom was the bigger sewer in the house and my grandfather back in Vietnam on my dad's side
It used to be a tailor. So both of my parents are super well versed in
Sewing and while you would think that means that I have some phenomenal teachers around me to teach me how to sew
They are actually your biggest critics sometimes so I never learned how to use a sewing machine growing up
But knowing me and loving all my fiber arts and fashion
history of fashion
Design type interests. I knew that I wanted to get a sewing machine at some point and I thought you know
I think I've delayed enough and should really learn. So one project I want to do this year is make some scrunchies
I know that's a really simple project
But I already tried making a skirt and I think I needed to
Real myself in a little bit because that was like way too difficult for me to start off with
I mean so far I've like hemmed a couple things in my closet because I am 5'2 and extremely short
So a lot of pants don't fit me properly. So I went through my closet and just like
practice sewing on those type of things
But now I really want to make a full project and I have a bunch of these scrunchies that I had gotten online
But for some reason I keep misplacing these scrunchies and I don't want to have to buy
Another pack if I you know
somehow lose them on the street or like I'm out and about not in my house and
they're just gone my plan is to go on Etsy and buy some organza fabric and
Make some scrunchies. I actually have no idea if organza is hard to work with
I feel like it probably will be and if you are an experienced sewer
I'm sure in the comments you will tell me that it is a difficult fabric to work with. I still want to try
I think it'll be a lot of fun
And I also want it to be a product that I'll actually wear or like use
So I know that I use these scrunchies all the time recently, so it's a good
Project for me with that. Those are all the knitting patterns and you know projects
I'm kind of thinking of for this summertime
I hope you guys enjoyed and I hope it wasn't also too premature and a lot of places, you know
Take a bit to warm up you guys like actually might have a spring
But if you're anything like me and live in the Midwest, you know, that's just like not a reality
And hey, maybe you live in a very warm place all year round
So these knits will be good for you
Anyways, if you'd like to see the crafts that I'm working on day-to-day feel free to follow me on Instagram
