This Drop Box RV Build update marks a major turning point — the structure is locked in, the box is taking shape, and we’re stepping into the next phase of the build.
After pushing through the framing stage, we’ve officially hit a big milestone:
✅ All framing is complete ✅ Siding is going on 🔥 And now… we’re adding climate control
❄️ Game Changer – 12V Mini Split
VEVOR came through in a big way and sent out a 12V mini split system for this build.
That means this Drop Box RV isn’t just a trailer…
👉 It’s becoming a fully climate-controlled off-grid basecamp
This setup is designed to keep things cool during those hot Texas days and make overnight kayak missions way more comfortable.
🔧 What’s Covered in This Update 🪚 finishing out the full trailer framing 🧱 installing the exterior siding ❄️ introducing the 12V mini split system 🚐 bringing the Drop Box RV closer to a real usable camper 🌊 Why This Build Matters
This project was built for one purpose:
To create a portable off-grid kayak adventure rig for places where Trudy Thunder is just too big to take.
With the structure complete and climate control in play, this is now shaping up to be:
🛶 a kayak hauler 🛏️ a comfortable sleeper ❄️ a cooled overnight setup 🔋 a self-contained off-grid system
This is where the build starts becoming a real adventure machine.
🧭 Join the Build
We’re getting close to putting this rig into real-world use.
More upgrades are coming. First trip is getting closer.

Good morning. Welcome to Dude RV. Hey, I appreciate you stopping by. And of course,
you got here just in time. That's right. Just in time for another episode of the Dropbox Build.
Giving you actually just an update on where we are so far. Most of my electrical components
have come in. Waiting on a couple more things today. That's all right because I'm not ready
to start wiring it up anyway. I'm still working on the skin and I've just fit the
inside for the back wall and now I got the back wall outside opening for my window.
I got a little special treatment I'm gonna do on there. I'm not exactly square but that's all right.
Trim is gonna fix it. That's ugly. All right, it gets the job done considering
the cost. I think I'm gonna replace those with the same screws I'm using on the side panels.
Anyway, I'll check back in a little while. I'm gonna keep cutting plywood.
So, we've had a development on the build and the development was V4.
Upgrade the home creator way. Now, apparently, I got a blurry lens. Hold on.
There, that's better. Okay. Supposedly, I have a roof mount air conditioner being sent to me.
I even prepped 14 by 14 holes. Things have changed. We've had a development. V4 sent me
in this. Yeah, let's open this box because I gotta open it because I need a measurement. So,
let's open another box. V4 sends me a list of things that they need.
I compare that list to the things that I'm doing at any given moment. It's a line set
mounting hardware. This is a mini, a 12-volt mini split for a semi-truck. It weighs
about 50 pounds. Yeah, probably the inside and the outside. So, let's open the inside unit first.
So, I'm putting the skin, I'm putting the plywood, the wall covering,
putting the wall coverings on and I need to know the opening size for this.
Sealing and remote control. Sealing as in air conditioning. Get a hold of that.
Don't let your children play with this. We got a piece of
line set goes from there. Now, look at the outside. I want to make sure I have enough
reinforcement in the wall to support this as we bounce down the highway. Another line set.
There it is. Not exactly sure. I guess that mounts to the wall.
That way you get airflow behind it. Let me do some measurements and then we'll see about getting,
I'll be back for this part. Well, I keep doing it. I forget to pick up the camera
because I have so many projects going in my head. I just stop on one and I work on one until I run
out of material and then I move on to the next. So, we're almost completely finished with the
woodworking part of this. I'm still, I ran out of glue, ran out of caulk, so I got to run into
town to get that. I got the last panel or door. So, I'm using RecPro doors and windows. There'll
be links in the description below. Got my opening. I'm not sure. I might have to raise that a little
bit. Anyway, we still have to put plywood on the inside and I ran out of, my staple gun died,
so I got to finish nailing the interior panel. I'm really crooked. Got to put some trim work up.
It's a basic wood box. We're almost to the point where I can start putting,
and I got to paint it. That'll be the next thing. Finishing this up and then in the next video,
you'll be seeing paint. So, I'm gonna close this out and next week we'll look at paint and I should
have all that cleared out inside. Okay, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider clicking on the
subscribe button. I do all kinds of interesting stuff around here. So, if you have been following
along, thank you very much. Stay tuned. Next week, I'll have another episode. Meanwhile,
it's coming on summer. All right, if this is your first visit to the Dude RV Experience,
I sure appreciate you stopping by and thank you for staying with me to this point. I know your
time's valuable. If you've not already, I would be most honored if you'd consider clicking on the
