I'm going to be showing you guys the world's most exclusive rhino experience.
Oh my gosh.
This is so cool.
This is why I've dreamt of this trip.
This is the most wildlife-filled moment of my life.
Good day guys.
Got a coffee and it's time to go see some rhinos.
Hi, what's your name?
My name is Ole.
Ole is going to be showing us around Solio National Park.
This is the first time I've seen this.
They have seats on top of the vehicle.
Thank you.
And it starts right now.
It's time for us to rise.
This is how you should experience the wild.
Where we've come today is the number one place arguably in the world
to be able to have up-close encounters with rhinos.
This is where one of the most thriving populations of both the white and the black rhinos live.
Let's make a bet. How long until we see our first rhino?
I say three minutes.
I'm guessing 20 minutes.
I want to struggle a little bit to find this rhino.
I found them!
I said I was going to find them first.
Oh, there's a lot of them.
Oh, wow.
They're so big.
They're so horny.
Look at that.
Okay guys, so we don't want to be too loud,
but we are approaching a family of about eight white rhinos.
It's so crazy that something so big and so powerful only eats grass.
It goes to show vegans are really strong.
This one's really staring at us.
I was always told rhinos are super aggressive, and he's like, it's okay.
What's the closest they've come to you?
Very close. Up to now.
This is so cool.
Hey, Robbie, Robbie. I don't know if you saw, but there's a rhino on your left.
My left?
These guys don't exactly have great eyesight.
They're kind of always trying to figure out what's in front of them.
So they have to rely entirely on hearing and smell.
I can go home happy now.
Okay.
This is such a wild experience.
I love when things just totally surpass your expectations.
The guy is so funny.
He's like, yeah, I know this is cool.
I feel alive. I feel alive.
How do you know if it's being aggressive?
They put their ears backwards and start making a growling sound.
We followed the two rhinos all the way down here to the river.
And like, no joke, they have the worst eyesight.
They barely notice we're even here.
An amazing evening, and Ole is filling up some amazing red wine.
Cheers to everyone.
Cheers.
To an amazing day.
To a horny day.
Time to get our day started.
Good morning, guys.
It's time to start our excursion.
We're actually going to have breakfast out with the rhinos.
Hi, Ole.
Hi.
We've arrived at campsite.
Ole has graciously set us up with his beautiful setup.
Doesn't get old.
So Ole has gotten us in position to see something truly incredible.
Ahead of us is a beautiful bull, which is a full-grown male rhino.
And his horn is massive.
The two males are basically having a little horn-off.
They're knocking each other.
Does it ever start as a play fight and turn into a real fight?
Yes, yes.
They do that.
They have two reasons.
When they get the dominancy, and also when there's a female on the hit.
Fight it now.
I can't believe he's leaving.
He's definitely, he's got the upper hand.
We're all about peace here.
But action's fun.
Serious dinosaur energy to them.
Oh my goodness.
Look, you guys.
That baby rhino.
I think that's why the mama stared us down.
She was like, I'm ready to charge.
It's time for some lunch, some blankets.
The winds are so strong.
Her food went flying.
It just went whoop off the plate.
There's Ruby's salad.
I want to introduce you to Cess.
Hi, I'm Cecilia.
I'm a rhino monitor at Solio.
If anybody knows population counts and all of their behaviors, it's her right here.
So at this point, we've seen a lot of white rhinos, but we have not seen a single one
of the black rhinos.
Black rhinos are the most endangered, and they're also solitary, so there's not going
to be a family.
Black rhinos are very aggressive and sensitive, you know.
So you run away?
You can't run an animal.
You must look for a cover.
Just dive.
I guess it'd be better to remove a thorn than a horn.
So that right there was the poacher prevention unit.
They're flying around the skies in helicopters, planes, looking for anybody that's come into
these grounds to kill a rhino for their horn.
The going rate for a horn is about 350,000 Kenyan shillings per kilogram, which in rough
numbers is about $35,000 per kilogram.
And he was saying that a rhino horn can be upwards of 6 kg.
So do the math on that, and you'll realize why people are willing to risk their lives.
Not only that, there's actually rules in Kenya that state if you find a poacher who is holding
a gun, no questions asked, he is shot on sight.
You might think that that sounds really unfair, but this is the measures they've had to take
to protect all of this.
There's so much more to share about that, and I'll get into it in a little bit.
But let's keep going.
Alright, so we're going to be off-road because...
You spotted one?
Yeah, two.
Two?
They're running away.
I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for her.
That was insane.
You see them?
Yeah.
Oh, yes.
How did she see that?
I don't even know.
Yo, we totally lost them.
They're like playing hide and seek with us right now.
Where did they go?
Is that why it ran away?
It smelt us?
Yes.
Wow.
You can't be upwind from them because the wind will blow our human scent toward them,
and they will either run away, or in some cases, if they see you and they feel trapped,
they could charge.
Even if you're in the car, they will charge the vehicle.
Will they come to us if you do that?
Yeah.
It's been like an hour since we saw the first couple, but they were so far away.
This is one of the places in the world that has the most black rhinos, and we're struggling
to find them.
This just shows how important it is to protect each one of them.
If we find this black rhino, it's going to be extremely rewarding.
Squad photo.
Wow.
Oh my gosh, and now there's all these baboons.
Giant baboons.
This is amazing.
Sunset is apparently when everyone comes out because the whole animal kingdom has just
been running through the forest.
Only thing we've missed is a lion and a black rhino.
What is it?
What is going on with my life?
This is insane.
It can die happily?
Yeah.
It's in a baby rhino.
Oh my goodness.
This is the most wildlife-filled moment of my life.
This is insane.
We just found the lions.
So these are two two-year-old males apparently.
They're so beautiful.
Successful day.
Floating head.
Good night, guys.
It's time to head back to the resort.
A beautiful fire.
A bed that's been warmed by these hot water bags.
Where's the water bag?
Oh, it's so warm.
And I will see you guys bright and early for something very special.
So yesterday, the black rhinos evaded us.
On all accounts, we saw them in the distance but never got close.
What do you think, Ole?
Are we going to see them today?
Ah, yes.
We are going to see them today.
That's what I needed to hear.
What shall we see today, Nigel?
I hope to see some penguins.
Oh, sheesh.
They run in slow motion.
Run.
We've been driving for an hour and a half and it's actually pretty cold today.
Starting to lose hope that we're going to see the black rhino.
There's something beautiful about working hard to see something.
So I hope we get that little payoff at some point.
We're not giving up yet.
Black rhino?
Yes.
Oh, my lord.
What?
You see them?
Yeah.
Oh, yes.
If you look closely, directly at its face, you will see that its mouth is very pointed.
And the reason is because it's actually meant to hook on to berries.
Whereas the other ones are grazers.
And the grazers are using their flat mouths to basically chomp a lot of grass at once.
So they've got some subtle differences in how they look.
But it's the behavior that's completely different.
They are so much more timid.
They're also very aggressive.
Black rhinos are known to charge.
And when that happens, as Cecile told us, you have to just dive in a bush and hope that you're okay.
By complete coincidence, we've just come across Cecile, who we saw yesterday.
And this is her team here.
I want to ask them some questions because there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to keep these animals safe.
Why are people hunting them?
What's so valuable about the rhino?
Because of their horns.
It's made of the same material as the nails.
Like human fingernail.
Yeah, the same as hair, too.
Yeah, the keratin.
They believe that horns are medicine.
And it's not.
It's just a belief.
When you think about it, the poaching of rhinos is totally irrational.
It is just a man's ego willing to pay insane amounts of money for what is nothing more than our fingernails.
One of the interesting things that we've learned is that poachers are no longer coming in with simple equipment.
They have access to ammunitions, helicopters.
Is this a dangerous job?
As long as you're doing the right thing.
These guys are putting everything they have on the line to be out here because they're truly passionate about those animals standing over there.
How can people like myself and other travelers help protect the rhinos? Is there anything we can do?
You guys are doing amazing work.
Thank you.
Thank you for all that you do.
That male came in and look.
Yeah, yeah.
We're all scared with him.
We're all hiding from that guy.
I noticed that as soon as he came over, the energy shifted.
Everyone went from being relaxed to like getting out of his way.
I love Africa.
This place is just so full of life.
There's three of them.
Can we take one?
Just one.
We'll leave the other two.
He's looking at me.
They're so cute.
Oh my gosh.
I'm surprised at how far away the mom is from us.
Yeah, I'm so surprised.
Absolutely surreal.
This is why I've dreamt of this trip and it's surpassed my expectations in every single shape and form.
This guy has been such an absolute legend on this trip.
Thank you so much for all that you've done for us.
Much welcome.
Sadly, that was our final game drive before we leave.
So sad.
Until our next adventure.
All right, man. It's date night.
Oh, sorry. Hi.
Not for us.
Oh.
Tonight, we get to escape the boys on top of the Solio restaurant.
There's this private little dining spot.
Look at that.
Wow, it's so cool because you can hear all the animals.
Yeah, it's warm enough because all the heat rises.
Yeah, it's open.
We've got more to share with you and that'll be in the next video.
If you want to support what we're currently doing here and you want to help the rhinos, please leave a like.
It does a lot.
It's one of the ways to let YouTube know to share these videos.
And guys, let's get lost again in the next one.
