Temple University police released surveillance photos showing the group whom officers are trying to track down in connection with the assault.
Well, this morning, an attack on Temple University's campus is under investigation.
Police say a group of juveniles chased and beat up a student early yesterday morning inside a dorm building.
Action News reporter Corey Davis is live at the campus in North Philadelphia with the latest
and just a really disturbing story and a lot of people talking, especially parents this morning.
Corey. Alicia, good morning.
A lot of questions, too, and I've been in touch with Temple University officials
who tell me that they aren't yet ready to say exactly what they believe possibly led up to
why this group allegedly beat up this student inside a dorm here on campus.
They're still looking into that, but I can tell you students are concerned
that the group was able to get into the dorm in the first place.
Temple University police are circulating these surveillance photos of nine juveniles
accused of beating up a student inside a dorm.
Most of their faces are covered, but police zoomed in on the one whose face is visible.
Students say video of the assault is circulating online.
Yeah, I honestly thought it was AI. I didn't believe it was happening at first.
Like they were picking up the computer and they were like slamming it on the desk.
Like they were jumping over like the gates or whatever and stuff like that.
It was crazy.
Campus police say the group chased a student inside the lobby of Morgan Hall South Dorm
at Broad and Oxford Streets at around three o'clock Sunday morning.
That's where police say the group struck the student.
It's crazy how that happened right in my building.
Morgan Hall is a busy and large dormitory complex of more than 1,200 students.
I normally feel safe, yeah, but the fact that they were able to do that really just proves that otherwise.
Police haven't said what led to all of this,
but we're told the victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
Some students tell us this is a reminder to be aware of their surroundings.
As a college student, your main priority is education, not really your safety,
but now with this being happening, it's a little bit more on the forefront.
And when it comes to safety,
campus police right now are urging students to utilize some services such as walking escorts.
They can actually have security safety officers walk them to where they want to go.
Those officers on bicycles patrolling the area.
And then there's also late night shuttles running from 6 p.m.
until 2 a.m. Reporting live here in North Philadelphia,
Corey Davis, Channel 6 Action News.
Good idea to know about all of that and to use it.
Thank you, Corey.
